A leading global proprietary trading firm is seeking an Operational Risk Analyst to strengthen second‐line risk oversight across its APAC business, based in Sydney. This role offers broad exposure across trading, technology, and operational functions within a highly automated, fast‐paced environment. You will partner closely with front‐line teams to identify operational risk, challenge control weaknesses, analyse incidents, and improve how risk data is used to support decision‐making and business growth.
What you'll do
* Support the enhancement of operational risk and control frameworks across the APAC business.
* Review operational incidents and near misses, identify recurring themes, and track remediation actions.
* Challenge incident reporting, escalation processes, and remediation plans where risks sit outside agreed tolerances.
* Analyse operational and risk data to identify trends, emerging risks, and control weaknesses across trading and technology environments.
* Contribute to control assurance activities, ensuring key controls are appropriately designed, tested, and monitored.
* Help translate risk appetite into measurable indicators, thresholds, and escalation criteria.
* Produce explicit risk reporting, dashboards, and management insights for both operational teams and senior stakeholders.
* Work closely with Trading and Technology teams to embed controls, automation, and risk signals into operational processes.
* Collaborate with global stakeholders to improve operational risk practices across international offices.
What we're looking for
* 3+ years of experience in operational risk, audit, controls, or related risk management roles.
* Exposure to trading environments, financial markets infrastructure, or technology risk within financial services.
* Degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Accounting, Risk Management, STEM, or a related discipline.
* Strong analytical and problem‐solving capabilities with the ability to turn data into actionable insights.
* Confidence to challenge constructively and influence stakeholders across technical and business teams.
* Ability to operate effectively in fast‐moving environments with incomplete or evolving information.
* Solid communication skills, both written and verbal.
* High attention to detail and a practical approach to risk management and controls.
* Interest in leveraging data analytics and AI to improve operational risk processes and monitoring.
