As we transition to the unified brand Halliwell APAC, we're expanding our office in our Adelaideoffice to support growing demand across Australia and the APAC region.
The Role
We're seeking a skilled and experienced Building Design / Building Consultant to join our Built Environment team. You'll lead design projects, assess damaged buildings, and deliver practical, compliant solutions tailored to insurance industry needs.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and present building designs using AutoCAD
* Prepare written scopes of work to accompany working drawings
* Design timber-framed structures in compliance with AS1684.2
* Conduct site inspections and assess damage and compliance upgrade needs
* Provide expert advice on repairs and upgrade requirements
* Prepare documentation for planning approvals and construction
* Liaise with insurers, loss adjusters, builders, engineers, planners, certifiers, and councils
* Ensure compliance with NCC, BCA, and relevant Australian Standards
* Stay informed on regulatory changes and industry innovations
Qualifications & Skills
Required:
* Diploma or Degree in Building Design, Architecture, or related field
* Strong proficiency in AutoCAD
* Deep understanding of construction methods, materials, timber framing, and fire-rated construction
* Experience assessing building damage and structural integrity (in collaboration with engineers)
* Ability to develop cost-effective repair solutions
* Excellent writing and stakeholder communication skills
* Knowledge of NCC, BCA, and local council regulations
* Australian work rights are required for this position
Preferred:
* Registration with BDAA or equivalent
* Familiarity with NatHERS and sustainability principles
* Experience with Development Approval processes in SA (other Australian jurisdictions would be considered advantageous)
Experience
* Minimum 5 years in building design or consultancy
* Residential experience is essential; commercial/industrial experience highly regarded
* Proven track record in timber frame projects and existing building assessments
