About The Role
The Capital Projects and Technical Services Directorate is responsible for delivering educational facilities and policies that support the department’s care, teaching, learning, and training programs. The Director, Capital Projects and Technical Services, leads the directorate, overseeing the planning and execution of all capital works, including major new construction, major refurbishments, upgrades, and renewal programs.
You will play a key role in progressing Our Strategy for Public Education in South Australia and leading the implementation of reforms arising from the Royal Commission into Early Childhood Education and Care, working in close collaboration with senior leaders across the department.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the end-to-end delivery of capital works programs and major projects, managing multiple concurrent initiatives in partnership with contractors, consultants, government agencies, and education facilities.
* Support the infrastructure response for new schools, spanning business case development, gateway and funding approvals through Infrastructure SA, delivery, and successful operationalisation of new facilities.
* Build and lead a high‑performing, multi-disciplinary team to deliver critical government commitments and election priorities, fostering a culture of collaboration, adaptability, and continuous improvement.
* Provide strategic leadership in infrastructure planning, policy development, and asset management, including oversight of the 20‑Year Infrastructure Plan and the Education and Care Facilities Framework.
* Partner with the Executive Director and senior stakeholders including the Minister for Education and Chief Executive to provide governance support, strategic advice, and timely reporting on key programs and priorities.
Essential Qualifications And Competencies
* Proven senior leadership experience in delivering complex, high‑profile infrastructure projects and programs within large, multidisciplinary organisations.
* Deep expertise in whole‑of‑life‑cycle asset management, risk management, and budget oversight, with a strong track record of driving strategic performance improvements.
* Exceptional stakeholder engagement, negotiation, and influencing skills, with the ability to deliver results through collaboration across diverse teams and complex environments.
* An appropriate tertiary qualification including post‑graduate qualifications in an appropriate discipline desirable or relevant experience.

Special Conditions
The successful applicant is required to gain a Department for Human Services (DHS) working with children check (WWCC) prior to being employed which is required to be renewed every five years before expiry. The incumbent will be required to undertake RRHAN –EC (Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect – Education Care) training course which will be required to be updated every three years.
