Governance Officer - Legal – Moranbah
An exciting opportunity exists for a full-time fixed term Governance Officer - Legal to join our Corporate Services Directorate until 4 June 2027. This position is pivotal in coordinating our legal services panel, ensuring the business is connected with the right legal expertise and supported through seamless administration and reporting. You'll lead the management of high order complaints, investigations, and Right to Information applications, while providing sound guidance on legal instruments. With a focus on strong corporate governance, you'll help keep our systems effective and our organisation operating with confidence and integrity.
To be successful in this position, you will:
* Have demonstrated experience (ideally 3+ years) in governance functions within Local Government, with exposure to legal services, legal procedures, or legal administration.
* Proven ability to coordinate legal services administration, including liaising with external legal advisors, managing legal panels/registers, and preparing high‑quality research and reports.
* Strong capability in managing Right to Information (RTI) applications and supporting high order complaint processes in line with legislation and organisational procedures.
* Sound understanding of Local Government operations, functions and legislative frameworks, with the ability to interpret legal instruments and apply governance principles.
* High level written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to research, analyse complex information, solve problems, and prepare clear, accurate documentation.
* Ability to work autonomously under limited supervision, exercising sound judgement, prioritising competing deadlines, and maintaining strict confidentiality.
* Proven experience delivering excellent customer service and building positive, collaborative relationships with stakeholders across all levels of the organisation.
* Strong administrative and digital capability, including experience using records management systems, word processing tools, and other corporate software.
* Ability to work effectively in a multi-skilled team environment, contribute to performance excellence, and support continuous improvement in governance practices.
* Relevant tertiary qualifications in Business, Legal Studies, Administration or Government Studies (or progression toward these), along with a valid C-Class Driver Licence. Formal legal studies, paralegal training, or experience in Local Government legislation are highly regarded.

* Salary $ $55.13 per hour
* Nominally 72.5 hours per fortnight
* RDO's in accordance with Council Policy
* 5 weeks annual leave @ 17.5% loading
* 15 days personal leave per annum
