About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Fitter / Operator to join our dry coal separation plant team with XG Mining at the Project near Emerald. This is a dual-skill role combining fixed plant mechanical maintenance and simple plant operation duties.
The position focuses on maintaining and operating a modular FGX dry separation system—a one-button automated plant that separates coal without water. The operator will oversee the separation process, monitor performance, and pre-identify faults or failures to ensure smooth operation and minimal downtime.
Key Responsibilities
* Operate the FGX Dry Separation Plant: Start, monitor, and stop the separation system via the control panel (one-button start). Observe plant performance, identify abnormal conditions, and ensure steady product quality.
* Condition Monitoring: Visually inspect and listen for irregularities in feeders, blowers, and conveyors to identify early signs of mechanical issues.
* Maintenance: Conduct scheduled maintenance, lubrication, and mechanical servicing of FGX modules, conveyors, crushers, and associated fixed plant equipment.
* Breakdown Response: Assist in fault diagnosis, repairs, and replacements to minimize downtime and improve equipment reliability.
* Safety & Compliance: Work in accordance with mine safety standards and isolation procedures. Complete relevant safety documentation (JSA, Take 5, etc.) before tasks.
* Teamwork: Collaborate with supervisors, electricians, and plant technicians to coordinate daily maintenance and operational tasks.
Skills & Experience Required
* Trade Qualification: Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Fitting (or equivalent).
* Relevant Background:
* Experience in coal handling, wash plant, or dry separation (FGX or similar) operations (desirable).
* Experience in fixed plant maintenance or coal processing facilities is essential.
* Training & Competencies:
* G1, G8, G9 (Risk Management, Incident Investigation & Safety Leadership) – required or willing to obtain.
* Standard 11 Surface Coal Mining Induction.
* Coal Board Medical (current or able to obtain).
* Working at Heights and Confined Space certificates.
* Technical Skills:
* Strong fault-finding and problem-solving abilities with mechanical systems.
* Ability to pre-identify mechanical or process failures through observation and data monitoring.
* Experience with conveyors, screens, blowers, feeders, and vibrating systems preferred.
* Other Requirements:
* Valid Australian Driver's License.
