Mortuary (pathology) assistant

What you'll do

* Assist in the controlled release of bodies; and preparation of deceased for viewing and identification purposes. Utilise relevant software and their application to the mortuary including: Auslab, Quality Information System (QIS2) and Outlook.
* Safely perform movement of deceased with appropriate manual handling techniques.
* Handle hazardous substances in accordance with relevant procedures in a mortuary environment.
* Provide assistance to the pathologist with photography of deceased and collection, labelling and processing of specimens.
* Assist in thorough cleaning of autopsy theatres and refrigerated storage areas, including instruments and trays, replacing and laundering dirty/soiled linen, and washing of autopsy trolleys and benches to ensure a clean working environment is maintained that meets appropriate safety standards.
* Assist in the maintenance of mortuary consumables, equipment, instrumentation and ensure they are in appropriate working order.
* Participate in Quality Management processes, competency-based training and continuous quality improvement including body audits and tracking to maintain mortuary accreditation

About you

We are searching for someone who has:

* A professional attitude, reliability and integrity necessary for a medico-legal and potentially hazardous workplace.
* High-level computer and information technology skills, with the ability to learn and use Auslab (case management system), QIS2 (quality system) and Microsoft software or equivalent applications within a mortuary environment.
* An understanding of relevant legislation and guidelines, and their application within a department undertaking medico-legal autopsies.
* Sound judgement, critical thinking, and effective communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to work collaboratively and contribute positively to team outcomes.
* The ability to proactively maintain a safe, secure and clean working environment, and a willingness to contribute to relevant systems, processes and procedures.
