Go back Northamptonshire Healthcare Foundation Trust
Fixed Term Clinical/Counselling Psychologist 7/8A
The closing date is 21 November 2025
We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated band7/8a psychologist to provide 9 months of fixed term maternity cover to both the Individual Funding Team and the Community Mental Health Psychology Team (0.5 WTE each).
The Individual Funding Team (IFT) within Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is responsible for managing mental health funding for external packages of care, such as locked rehabilitation placements, residential care, supported living and therapies or treatments that cannot be provided by the Trust. We support a diverse population, people living with psychosis and bipolar conditions, drug misuse, personality disorders, forensic histories, developmental disorders, dementia, and neurological difficulties. The Clinical Psychologist within the team supports placement decisions by developing robust psychological formulations that guide placement choice. They also support the review process, ensuring the psychological needs of the individual are met and the placement is maintained, at times providing training, consultation and reflective practice to support continuity of care. There will also be opportunities for research, service evaluation, and audit to ensure the service is meeting service user's needs.
Main duties of the job
Within the Community Mental Health Team, the successful applicant will provide psychological assessment and interventions across the breadth of client groups and presentations that are seen in the team. There are opportunities for specialising in a particular area. There will also be opportunities to provide supervision, consultation, reflective practice and training to the multi‑disciplinary teams and you will be supported to do this. You would be working with other psychology colleagues to deliver and develop the service in a multi‑disciplinary team environment where the contribution of psychology is well‑respected and valued.
For both posts the successful applicant will be line‑managed and supervised by a Principal Psychologist (CMHT), and the Consultant Psychologist and Clinical Lead for the Mental Health Recovery Pathway (IFT). There are regular opportunities to meet with peers and a number of CPD opportunities. More widely, you will join a thriving network of Clinical Psychologists working in a variety of specialties across the Trust. We have strong links with the Leicester and Oxford University Doctoral Training Courses and will support the postholder to develop skills in supervision as required for the Preceptorship scheme.
