Equis Australia is leading Australia's clean energy transition, with an immediate focus on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) followed by Wind and Solar farm developments.
Equis's first BESS project at Melbourne Renewable Energy Hub has commenced commercial operation with Calala NSW BESS well advanced through construction. The Energy Markets team are critical to operating these assets and working with other Equis teams to determine which assets, technology and regions will be the next projects to be delivered across the large development pipeline.
What You'll Do Trading Performance Analytics
* Conduct daily analysis of market outcomes — price behaviour, dispatch results and key market drivers — that feeds directly into trader decision-making.
* Investigate major price events and volatility, unpacking the underlying causes: network constraints, renewable generation variability, generator outages and demand fluctuations.
* Analyse asset performance relative to market opportunities, identifying drivers of revenue capture and missed revenue.
* Translate complex market behaviour into clear, actionable insights for the trading desk.
Market Monitoring & Event Analysis
* Monitor NEM fundamentals in real time: demand trends, renewable generation, generator availability, interconnector flows and transmission constraints.
* Identify emerging market patterns and flag potential trading opportunities or risks before they materialise.
Reporting & Analytics Development
* Produce daily and weekly trading performance reports for the trading team.
* Build analytical tools and dashboards that sharpen market visibility for traders.
* Strengthen the team's data infrastructure and reporting capability.
* Contribute to short‐term forecasting models covering price, demand and renewable generation.
* Improve forecast accuracy through rigorous data analysis and iterative model development.
What We're Looking For Experience
* 2+ years working in the Australian NEM or a comparable electricity market.
* Hands‐on experience analysing dispatch outcomes, price formation and system events.
* Solid understanding of NEM fundamentals and market drivers.
Technical Skills
* Strong Python or SQL skills for data analysis.
* Experience with AEMO market data (MMS / NEMWeb).
* Proficiency with data visualisation tools (Power BI, Tableau or similar).
* Comfortable leveraging AI and machine learning tools to enhance analytical workflows and uncover deeper market insights.
Highly Desirable
* Experience in energy trading, market operations or trading analytics.
* Understanding of network constraints and dispatch mechanics.
* Experience analysing battery storage or renewable generation performance.
* Highly analytical and genuinely curious about markets.
* Able to cut through complexity and communicate clearly to a trading audience.
* Energised by a fast‐paced, high‐stakes environment.
