The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the mechanical design, application engineering, and technical support of power generation and temperature control solutions across the APAC region. The role focuses on diesel and gas generator systems, fuel systems, and temperature control plant (chillers, heat exchangers, HVAC), ensuring performance, reliability, safety, and compliance with Australian and international standards.
You will work closely with sales, operations, QHSE, and project management teams to develop robust solutions, support project delivery from concept to commissioning, and provide expert technical guidance to internal and external stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Take technical ownership of design and application engineering for power generation and temperature control projects across APAC from concept to FAT/SAT and commissioning
- Deliver detailed mechanical designs for mining and power generation projects, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations and that designs consider fuel properties, performance, emissions, reliability, and maintainability
- Size and specify mechanical equipment, including engines, generators, fuel systems, chillers, heat exchangers, HVAC equipment, pumps, and ancillary components
- Support the design and integration of fuel gas conditioning systems (filtration, pressure regulation, heating) for gas engines
- Provide operational technical support for deployed systems, including fault-finding, root cause analysis, and performance optimisation to minimise downtime
- Participate in on-call and escalation support for urgent operational issues
- Provide technical input and options to Sales teams, supporting bids, tenders, and proposals with optimised solutions
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines, project managers, suppliers and contractors to ensure successful delivery
- Produce clear, concise technical reports and recommendations for internal and external stakeholders
What we’re looking for

- Ideally a minimum of approx.. 5 years’ experience in power generation and/or temperature control systems (diesel/gas generators, chillers, HVAC, industrial cooling/heating)
- Strong understanding of diesel and gas generator systems, including performance optimisation and reliability engineering.
- Proven experience in sizing and selecting mechanical equipment
- Experience in designing temperature control systems including sizing and selection of equipment
- Basic knowledge of fuel gas conditioning systems and their application with gas engines.
- Strong understanding of fuel parameters (heat rate, LHV/HHV, Wobbe Index, specific fuel consumption) and their impact on generator performance and efficiency
- Knowledge of diesel fuel standard EN590 and biodiesel standard EN14214, with awareness of their implications for engine performance and emissions
- Proficiency in 3D AutoCAD (or similar CAD tools) for preparing and modifying mechanical drawings and layouts
- Demonstrated hands-on troubleshooting skills and root cause analysis capability on mechanical systems
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams (engineering, operations, sales, project management)
- Solid written and verbal communication skills, including technical reporting
- Basic project management capability (scheduling, resource coordination, progress reporting)
