About the role
We have one (1) position available for a Parks Planner, Permanent Full-time position. This position has a key function within the Parks Planning and Asset Management Team, providing:
* Support to management through preparation of reports of a complex nature which provide professional and objective recommendations and advice to Council and customers in relation to park planning.
* Maintenance of Parks Branch databases (including updating GIS and Parks Network Map), such that they are maintained and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
* Support the team in the development of Council's Parks Strategy and Local Government Infrastructure Plan for park land infrastructure.
* Planning support regarding the City's open spaces, policy and procedures relative to parks and open spaces, research (where requested) and advice on potential park land acquisition, disposal, transfer or exchange proposals.
* Strategy and policy development support relating to all facets of open space strategies, policies and planned infrastructure.
To succeed in the role, the successful applicant will display and provide evidence of the following success profile (as a minimum).
Planning and Policy Development
– Ability to undertake research and prepare advice regarding planning matters, open space management issues, and policy within a local government context.
Technical
– preparing research which informs the delivery of strategic network planning.This includes the ability to research, interrogate, and maintain data to investigate enquiries and challenges pertaining to park network planning.
Teamwork
– collaboration with a range of stakeholders with diverse backgrounds to achieve Parks Branch and Council objectives.
Communication
– communicating and dealing with people in a responsive manner with tact and understanding and to make prompt reliable decisions within the bounds of allocated responsibilities.
Skills & Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree or post graduate qualification in Urban and Regional Planning, Landscape Planning, Open Space Planning, or a related discipline.
* Understanding of open space planning within a local government context.
* Ability to interpret and provide advice regarding legislative, policy, and procedural changes as they occur.
* Proficiency utilising Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and experience in the use of standard MS Office software to prepare reports.
* Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills and ability to communicate to a variety of audiences within Council.
* C Class Drivers Licence
