Join our team as a Water Industry Worker 1 (Labourer) – Based on the Southern Moreton Bay Islands
Play a key role in delivering high-quality reactive and planned maintenance, non-routine construction, and property connection services across Redland City's water and wastewater networks.
This includes maintaining hydrants, mains, and related infrastructure, while operating safely and efficiently.
This position is based on the Southern Moreton Bay Islands – applicants should either be local residents or be willing to travel via ferry daily.
This is a hands-on, field-based role with opportunities to progress to higher levels by developing your skills, gaining qualifications, and demonstrating leadership and technical expertise.
Your responsibilities will include:
Assist with construction, maintenance, and repair of water and wastewater infrastructure
Operate tools, small plant, and light equipment safely on site
Perform confined space entry and traffic management tasks under supervision
Help plan and schedule jobs, requisition materials, and maintain accurate records
Follow all health, safety, and environmental procedures and report risks
Work closely with the team to achieve tasks efficiently and safely
Provide professional customer service and clear communication at all times
Skills and experience:
Hands-on experience in water, wastewater, or construction-related maintenance
Ability to operate and maintain tools, small plant, and light equipment
Comfortable performing manual labour, confined space entry, and traffic management
Basic administrative skills
Understanding of workplace health, safety, and environmental requirements
Strong teamwork skills and willingness to learn on the job

Eligibility:
Current Class C driver's licence
Medium Rigid (MR) licence or be willing to obtain one
Ability to participate in the after-hours on-call roster, including weekends and public holidays
You'll be physically capable and able to obtain a confined space entry certificate
Hold a Construction White Card (Work Safely in the Construction Industry) or be willing to obtain one
