Executive officer

Port Macquarie
GWG Recruitment
Posted: 5 May
Offer description

This well-known and respected sporting association, led by a new governing body, is bringing together the sport across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Port Stephens. With over 5,000 players, officials and volunteers, they are proud of their history and are now focused on building an even stronger future for the game.

Partnering with the Board, the Executive Officer will lead the day-to-day operations and help deliver the strategy that will shape the sport across our region.

The Role

This is a unique leadership role where you'll sit at the heart of community sport. The role is responsible for connecting clubs, stakeholders and the broader sporting network while ensuring the organisation runs effectively, sustainably and with impact.

Reporting to the Board, the Executive Officer will lead day-to-day operations and administration, while also playing a critical role in shaping the organisation's future through strong commercial thinking, stakeholder engagement and strategic execution.

You'll be responsible for:

* Managing the day-to-day operations of a high-profile sporting association in our region
* Supporting the Board with governance, compliance, reporting and administration
* Leading the implementation and ongoing refinement of the organisation's strategic plan
* Overseeing finances, budgets and reporting
* Building relationships with clubs, councils, state bodies and the wider community
* Developing and delivering sustainable revenue streams across sponsorship, grants, competitions and partnerships
* Supporting competitions and participation across all levels of the game

About You

You're practical, reliable and know how to get things done.

You might come from sport, community organisations or a commercial background, but you'll bring:

* Strong organisational and financial skills
* The ability to work independently and take ownership
* Strong commercial acumen to help grow revenue and keep things sustainable
* Confidence working with a range of stakeholders
* A genuine appreciation for the role sport plays in the community

Why this Role?

The Executive Officer role is your chance to make a genuine difference in community sport.

The opportunity offers flexibility to shape how and when you work, including the option for part-time arrangements. Sport doesn't always run 9–5, so there will be some evening and weekend involvement during the season - but there's flexibility to balance this across the year.

If you're someone who enjoys rolling up your sleeves, working with good people and being part of something meaningful, we'd love to hear from you.

How to apply

Apply now with your CV and a cover letter before Wednesday 13th May 2026. For all enquiries, please contact Julie Gearie on T: 02 4905 0130.
