Trainee/Junior Draftsperson/Junior Civil Engineer

We are seeking a Junior Draftsperson/Civil Engineer to join our team in Perth, who can help us to meet the growing portfolio of exciting projects across Australia.

Our ideal candidate for this role will have one to two years' experience looking to join our civil engineering team. We are looking for motivated individuals who wish to contribute to shaping and growing a high performing, dynamic team, working seamlessly across our national business.

Duties

* Designing local street and road alignments including local area traffic management devices, understanding stormwater drainage and lighting requirements.
* Generating road cross-sections, longitudinal profiles, and grading plans for urban roads and urban development.
* Undertaking and contributing to earthwork designs, roadside kerb placements, and understanding key objective for urban roads water flow impact.
* Interpreting borehole data, soil classification reports and bearing capacity tests.
* Using Main Roads WA and Australian Standards to prepare local road and street designs, parking layouts, pavement marking and signs plans and footpath and shared path design layouts.
* Knowledge of shared zone design requirements to assist wider PJA planning team.

Skills and experience

* Educated to Advanced Diploma level with experience in civil road design, with a strong interest in infrastructure, geotechnical design, and utility networks.
* Experience in structural & civil drafting understanding and knowledge of concrete structures, foundation design, steel framing and roadworks is highly desirable.
* Additional knowledge of geotechnical design including soil analysis and foundation reports would be an advantage.
* Experience working with inner city metropolitan local government is essential, ideally within Perth, WA.
* Experience of working as part of a team on civil engineering projects with both public sector clients with an understanding of pavement and drainage design.
* A confident communicator verbally and in writing, communicating their ideas clearly and concisely both internally and also to a wide range of external audiences.

Depending on experience, our ideal candidates will also have some, but not necessarily all, of the following alongside a strong motivation to learn and develop skills:

* Use of AutoCad and Civil 3D
* Survey Data Interpretation: Importing, processing, and analysing survey data
* Experience in public sector facing civil design projects
* Basic experience/understanding of Australian standards
* Excellent communication skills and interface with clients
* The ability to undertake focussed, problem-solving tasks with an appropriate degree of independence to arrive at solutions to often complex challenges
* An understanding of the design process in Western Australia, and experience of applying WA local government design standards.
