Director of Research Role Summary
The Director of Research will be responsible for driving and overseeing the analytical output of the institute, shaping and supporting key strategic initiatives, and generating new ideas to influence policy outcomes. This role is ideal for a strategic and creative leader who can think ahead of global policymaking and help the institute capitalize on emerging opportunities.
* Drive and oversee the analytical output of the institute, ensuring high-quality analysis and product.
* Shape and support key strategic initiatives, including the Sydney Dialogue, Raisina Down Under, and other globally influential data-driven projects.
* Generate new ideas and develop them into funded, effective projects that influence policy outcomes.
* Lead multiple teams focused on different institute priorities, providing clear strategic direction and resulting in high-quality output.
* Engage with senior stakeholders across Parliament, governments, business, and civil society, leveraging strong domestic and global networks.
* High-level conceptual and strategic thinking ability, with the ability to think and act ahead of global policymaking.
* Excellent analytical skills, with a strong understanding of data collection and analysis, policy-relevant research, and OSINT tradecraft.
* Strong leadership skills, including extensive experience in growing and managing diverse teams, and sophisticated diplomatic skills for dealing with senior representatives.
* Passion for strategy and detail, with proven written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to convey complex topics to non-specialist audiences.
