Primary objective
Provide evidence-based psychosocial assessment, therapeutic intervention and wellbeing support to Northern Territory
Police Force (NTPF) and Northern Territory Fire and Emergency Services (NTFES) workers and their families, including
preventative wellbeing screening, crisis response, critical incident support and advice to managers on psychological risk.
Context statement
Wellbeing Services is a multidisciplinary team delivering psychological, psychosocial and pastoral support across a stepped-
care model for the NTPF and NTFES workforces. This Katherine-based role provides local and remote clinical services across
the Big Rivers region and participates in the 24/7 wellbeing response framework.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Deliver evidence-based psychosocial services, including intake and comprehensive psychosocial assessment, therapeutic
intervention, crisis support and preventative mental health screening (WellChecks).
1. Undertake risk assessment and provide professional advice to support early intervention, wellbeing planning and
coordinated case management.
3. Respond to critical incidents by providing psychosocial first aid, risk assessment and appropriate escalation or referral.
4. Provide specialist advice to workers on psychosocial risk, behavioural concerns, welfare issues and available supports.
5. Develop and deliver training, psychoeducation and mental health promotion relevant to a first-responder workforce.
6. Maintain accurate clinical records and comply with professional, legislative and agency requirements; participate in
supervision, professional development, the 24/7 wellbeing response framework and travel to regional and remote
locations as required.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Tertiary qualifications in social work and eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers.
2. Demonstrated experience delivering psychosocial assessment, therapeutic intervention and case management for
individuals experiencing trauma, mental health concerns or complex social issues.
1. Competence in crisis response and suicide risk assessment, including support following critical incidents.
2. Proven ability to provide clear, defensible recommendations to support wellbeing planning, workplace decision making
and early intervention.
1. High-level interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills, including the ability to engage respectfully with First
Nations people and remote communities.
1. Demonstrated ability to work independently in a regional environment and manage competing priorities in a dynamic
first-responder context.
1. Demonstrated workplace behaviours consistent with NTPF values and code of conduct.
Desirable
1. Experience working within a first-responder or other complex and high-risk operational environment.
1. Experience supporting clients affected by domestic and family violence, trauma, cumulative operational stress or complex
psychosocial situations.
