Cook / Commis Chef – Permanent Part-Time (32–38 hrs)

Merak GF Café is seeking an experienced Cook or Commis Chef (2nd year apprentices also welcome) to join our professional, supportive kitchen team in Redland Bay.
This is a permanent part-time role offering consistent hours (32–38 per week), ideal for someone seeking stability, structure and a positive team environment.

About the role
You will work across breakfast and lunch service, with dinner service on Friday nights only, preparing and presenting dishes to recipe and specification in a busy, well-organised kitchen.
Key responsibilities include:
* Cooking and plating menu items to a high standard
* Preparing food from established recipes and systems
* Maintaining cleanliness, food safety and hygiene standards
* Daily prep, stock rotation and kitchen organisation
* Placing stock orders to set par levels using approved suppliers
* Receiving and checking deliveries
* Working collaboratively with the team to ensure smooth service
Our menu includes breakfasts, burgers, pizzas, nachos, salmon, rice bowls and café classics. All dishes are 100% gluten free.
Experience in gluten-free cooking is not required — full training is provided.

* Permanent part-time: 32–38 hours per week
* Tuesday to Saturday
* Only one Friday night, early finish approx 8:30pm
* Consistent, rostered hours each week (not casual or fluctuating)

About you
* Proven experience as a Cook or Commis Chef OR a capable 2nd year apprentice
* Certificate III Commercial Cookery qualification required
* Certificate III Commercial Cookery qualification must be held at the time of application
* Minimum 2+ years' kitchen experience preferred
* Kitchen experience requirements may be considered on a case-by-case basis for strong 2nd year apprentices
* Confident working to recipes, systems and set procedures
* Reliable, professional and well presented
* Strong hygiene and food safety standards
* Valid food handling certification from any recognised course required
* Team-focused with a positive work ethic
* Able to travel reliably to Redland Bay (4165)
* Australian work rights required
* Any legal Australian work rights are acceptable, including valid work visas
