Want to contribute to creating a net-zero, climate-ready city? We’re looking for proactive and talented staff to join us as Assistant Directors in the Climate Change Energy and Water Division. As an Assistant Director, you will have the opportunity to make an impact through leading and supporting the ACT to continue to reduce its emissions, adapt to a changing climate, increase community resilience, and promoting sustainable energy and water supply and use. The Climate Change, Energy and Water Division ensures the ACT remains a national and global leader in addressing climate change and promoting sustainable energy and water supply and use. Through policies and programs including active engagement with the community, we seek to reduce energy & water use, support renewable energy, promote environmentally sound transport choices, reduce waste and improve its management, improve information on climate change and increase resilience to our changing climate. These activities occur in all sectors including government, schools, business, community and households, and contribute to Canberra’s growth as a dynamic, sustainable and prosperous city. Eligibility/Other Requirements: Tertiary qualifications or experience in climate change, economics and/or energy would be highly regarded, but not essential. A current ACT or equivalent driver’s licence may be required. Some weekend and after-hours work may be required. Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 may be required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to - Apply for or renew a WWVP registration - Access Canberra (act.gov.au) Notes: There are multiple temporary vacancies that will be filled through this process with the possibility of extension up to 12 months and/or permanency, with one temporary position available immediately until 01 March 2026. A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill other vacancies that arise over the next 12 months. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only. This position will be based in the ACT Government’s Dickson Office Block which is designed for activity-based working (ABW). Under ABW arrangements, officers will not have a designated workstation/desk.
