At Stuart Lodge in Alice Springs, your passion for food will directly support individuals and families experiencing homelessness.As a 24/7 transitional accommodation service, our kitchen is at the heart of what we do-and we're looking for someone to help prepare and serve nutritious, home-style meals each day.In this rewarding role, you'll work in a fully equipped commercial kitchen, cooking for 15-22 clients daily and prepping additional meals for the weekend.You'll also collaborate with the team to plan menus, manage stock, and assist with ordering supplies to keep everything running smoothly. Shifts run from 3pm to 7pm, Monday to Friday, with time dedicated to prep, dinner service, and cleaning.This is your chance to turn your love for food into something truly meaningful-bringing comfort, care, and a sense of home to those who need it most.Your Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare and serve daily nutritious meals for 15-22 residents, ensuring dietary needs and preferences are met.Plan weekly menus in collaboration with the Program Manager, incorporating feedback from staff and residents.Order food and kitchen supplies, manage stock levels, and conduct regular stocktakes.Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of the commercial kitchen, including proper food storage and labelling.Safely handle and store food in accordance with NT Health and Food Safety Standards.Prepare and store additional meals for weekend service, ensuring quality and compliance.Receive, inspect, and quality-check food deliveries to ensure freshness and standard compliance.Requirements for SuccessHold a Food Handling Certificate or equivalent.Relevant qualification in food preparation, hygiene, and nutrition (e.g., Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or similar).Proven experience in a commercial kitchen environment.Strong knowledge of the Food Safety Act and food handling regulations.Personal alignment with the values of Mission Australia and a passion for supporting vulnerable individuals.Ability to plan menus that meet nutritional standards and cater to diverse dietary needs.A commitment to maintaining high hygiene standards in food preparation and kitchen management.Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.Our CultureOur innovative and inclusive culture will ensure you feel valued at Mission Australia as you help Australians in need and develop in your career.
