Primary objective
Under the guidance of Senior Planners, provide professional advice and information to the Department, the Development Consent
Authority (DCA), relevant Government Departments and agencies and the public on planning and development issues.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide professional advice and information to the Department, the Development Consent Authority (DCA), relevant Government
Departments and agencies and the public on planning and development issues.
2. Process development applications and prepare reports to the Development Consent Authority.
3. Liaise with development applicants and provide advice on developments to ensure that they comply with the relevant Planning
Scheme or are able to obtain exceptions.
4. Undertake inspections of development sites, reporting on general and detailed planning issues, including investigations of alleged
breaches of statutory planning controls under the Planning Act 1999.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. A degree or diploma related to Land Use Planning from an Australian tertiary institution, or equivalent, or admission, or eligibility for
admission, to full membership of the Planning Institute of Australia.
2. Ability to provide professional advice to government, industry and the public on land planning and development processes and
requirements.
3. Knowledge and experience in dealing with a wide range of land use and development planning issues, including high levels of
competency in the assessment of development applications made under statutory planning requirements.
4. Good communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with a range of technical, professional and lay people and
prepare correspondence.
5. Demonstrated ability to operate efficiently and reliably with minimum supervision and providing support to the team environment.
6. Current Northern Territory Drivers Licence or ability to obtain.
7. Well-developed political and cross cultural awareness skills.
Desirable
1. Good knowledge of the Northern Territory planning procedures, systems and Departmental practices.
