The Lions Eye Institute is a not-for-profit centre of excellence that combines world class scientific research into the prevention of blindness with the highest level of eye care delivery.
The Opportunity
Working collaboratively in partnership between UWA and Lions Outback Vision (LOV), this position provides clinical services to the residents of Broome through the LOV Specs Optometry Clinic. Teaching and hosting optometry students and regular outreach optometry clinics across the Kimberley region is a significant component of this position. Working closely with the Practice Manager to achieve self-sustainability of the clinic is the major goal.
Responsibilities to include:
* Review and investigate patients as required using full Optometric skills including but not limited by the following:
* Refraction
* Ocular health examination
* Binocular Indirect ophthalmoscopy.
* Slit lamp indirect ophthalmoscopy.
* Gonioscopy.
* Binocular vision assessment.
* Colour vision assessment.
* Visual field analysis (Humphrey/FDT).
* Corneal Topography.
* Ocular Motility and Hess screen.
* Dry eye assessments
* IOL Power measurement and calculations
* Treatment planning
* Communicate essential information to patients, medical, paramedical and nursing staff with regard to the provision of patient care.
* Consult with relevant medical and nursing personnel in relation to complex clinical problems.
* Understand and utilise the quality use of medicines principles, knowing when to refer and when patient conditions are outside of scope and area of expertise.
* Ensure that own knowledge and skills are kept relevant and in accordance with best practice.
* Ensure documentation reflects clinic's policies and meets legal requirements.
* Supervise and mentor optometry students on regular rotation.
* Participate in staff meetings to ensure a consistent approach to clinical care.
* Maintain a high standard of record keeping and contribution to administrative requirements.
* Assist in triage of patients.
* Assist/initiate and develop research projects.
Essential Criteria
* Tertiary Qualifications as an Optometrist (with therapeutic endorsement).
* Registration with AHPRA and the Optometry Board of WA.
* Demonstrated knowledge and skills in visual assessments, testing and the provision of ophthalmic services.
* Ability to work across/learn all eye specialties.
* Ability to work in multi-disciplinary team.
* Excellent interpersonal skills.
