Job Title: Medical Expert
Description:
The role of a medical expert is to provide high-quality medical care and management of patients within the healthcare system.
Patients will be admitted under a senior medical officer (general physician or geriatrician).
The specialist will review the patients, determine a management plan and follow the patient through their hospital admission.
Communication with referring medical officers and the healthcare team will take place.
The primary location of this position may vary as agreed with the Director of Medical Services and as approved by MDAAC to other facilities in SESLHD.
Supporting and participating in teaching for undergraduate and postgraduate students and other staff of the hospital will be required.
Demonstrating the capacity to work with a multidisciplinary health care team and communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and staff; providing high-standard clinical care in the public sector setting.
Engaging in quality improvement activities and, where relevant, research aligned to the Department's needs.
* Providing expert medical assessment and management of patients within the department/service
* Reviewing patients and determining a management plan
* Following patients through their hospital admission
* Communicating with referring medical officers and the healthcare team
* Working with a multidisciplinary healthcare team
* Providing high-standard clinical care in the public sector setting
* Engaging in quality improvement activities and research
Requirements:
* Registration or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA)
* Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) or equivalent specialist recognition as provided by the Health Insurance Act 1973 and relevant Award/Determination
* Subspecialty training in General Medicine and/or Geriatric Medicine
* Continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices aligned with the scope of practice
* High-quality clinical service provision
* Teaching experience
* Effective communication skills
* Ability to work with medical and health service colleagues as part of a multidisciplinary team
* Research experience and commitment relevant to the role and Department needs
