**Purpose of Position**
The Domestic Assistant provides essential in-home domestic support services to older Australians and people with disabilities to help them maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable living environment. This role supports Participants’ independence and wellbeing by delivering timely and effective household cleaning, laundry, and related domestic tasks aligned with their assessed needs. The Domestic Assistant contributes to the overall quality of life of Participants by promoting safe and hygienic home environments, enabling them to live safely and comfortably in their own homes for as long as possible.
**Key Responsibilities**:
The following list gives examples of the type of duties you may undertake. All of these should be done in a manner which encourages service users towards the maximum degree of independence and activity appropriate to their abilities.
1. **Perform Domestic Cleaning Tasks**
- Clean Participants’ homes, including vacuuming, dusting, mopping floors, cleaning kitchens, bathrooms, toilets, and other general household cleaning duties.
- Ensure all cleaning activities meet health, hygiene, and safety standards.
2. **Laundry and Linen Care**
- Assist with washing, drying, folding, and putting away laundry and linens.
- Ensure Participants’ clothing and household fabrics are properly cared for.
3. **Support Safe and Healthy Living Environments**
- Help maintain a clean, safe, and comfortable home environment for Participants.
- Report any hazards or safety issues observed in the Participant’s home to the coordinator or supervisor.
4. **Participant Interaction and Support**
- Build respectful, friendly relationships with Participants, respecting their privacy and dignity.
- Communicate effectively with Participants to understand their cleaning needs and preferences.
- Be sensitive to cultural and individual Participant needs and preferences.
5. **Documentation and Reporting**
- Record tasks completed during each visit as required by the organisation’s procedures.
- Report any changes in Participant circumstances or needs to supervisors.
6. **Adhere to Policies and Procedures**
- Follow organisational policies, including infection control, manual handling, confidentiality, and Participant safety guidelines.
- Comply with the CHSP program guidelines and standards.
7. **Team Collaboration**
- Work collaboratively with other care workers, coordinators, and supervisors.
- Participate in any required training or meetings related to the role.
**Qualifications & or Experience**
- **Qualifications**:
- No formal qualifications are strictly required for most Domestic Assistant roles.
- **Experience**:
- Previous experience in domestic cleaning, housekeeping, or support roles, preferably within aged care or community services.
- Experience working with older adults or people with disabilities is highly desirable but not essential.
- Demonstrated ability to follow instructions, work independently, and maintain Participant confidentiality and dignity.
- **Effective Communication and Interpersonal Skills**
Ability to engage with Participants, families, and colleagues with professionalism and empathy, including supporting Participants with complex or vulnerable needs. Meets the interpersonal and communication expectations of a Level 2 worker.
- **Capacity to Work Autonomously and as Part of a Team**
Demonstrated ability to operate independently within well-defined service the Aged Care Quality Standards and the NDIS Quality and Safeguarding Framework. procedures and contribute effectively in a team-based environment, consistent with Level 1 autonomy and accountability.
- **Organisational and Administrative Competence**
Sound time management, record keeping, and basic numerical skills necessary for maintaining documentation, scheduling, and reporting as per STAR’s procedures.
- **Digital and Technological Proficiency**
Intermediate computer skills and experience using mobile devices, online platforms, and Participant management systems in line with administrative duties typical to this role.
- **Commitment to Continuous Improvement and Safe Practice**
Proven ability to follow WHS protocols, participate in quality improvement activities, and implement feedback to enhance service delivery.

**Desirable**
A Certificate II in Cleaning or Aged Care (e.g., CHC22015 Certificate II in Community Services or CHC22021 Certificate II in Community Services) advantageous but is not mandatory.
