The Role:
The IT Architect will be responsible for designing and maintaining the organisation's technology architecture to ensure it meets current and future business needs. This role focuses on developing and implementing fit for purpose critical architecture solutions aligned with organisational and regulatory requirements to best position the Departments to meet future challenges and remain up to date with IT industry.
• Develop and maintain end-to-end architecture solutions that follow architecture principles, industry standards & trends, organisational IT strategies and governance frameworks.
• Collaborate, communicate, and engage with stakeholders on complex technical issues including strategies, planning, governance and risk management to share information, build consensus and drive positive outcomes.
• Work in collaboration with Department delivery teams and IT Service Providers to Architect and Design elements of our Application and Infrastructure Architecture to deliver IT Services to the Departments in the most efficient and effective manner possible.
• Provide ongoing design assurance to delivery teams implementations are as per design and aligned to best practice.
• Anticipate future challenges in the Department IT requirements and position the Department to meet these challenges and remain up to date with IT industry and market trends, incorporating them into the Department enterprise architecture.
• Promote and realise automation opportunities across infrastructure and application deployment, maintenance, and operational activities.
• Work with vendors to identify, plan, and realise opportunities across our technology portfolio.
• Be a model leader and work with internal stakeholders to build capabilities that support strategic Department work practices.
• Manage the development and delivery of position papers to support new business initiatives, business cases, risk assessments, new patterns, reference architectures, and standards for initiatives which are not in-pattern for the standard Department environment.
• Identify technical debt in out of pattern solutions.
Skills and Experience Required:
• Experience in developing end to end technology architecture solutions with consideration for architecture principles, standards and guidelines, infrastructure and integration considerations, industry trends, our IT strategies, and relevant IT standards.
• Has demonstrated experience in large, complicated government environments.
• Collaborates, communicates, and engages effectively with provider partners and senior executives, and delivery teams on complex technical issues including strategies, planning, governance and risk management to share information, build consensus and drive positive outcomes.
• Has the ability to navigate complex commercial, technical, and operational landscapes to provide sustainable solutions that can scale across multiple applications.
• Can clearly articulate and tailor complex and technical information, including findings, scenarios, and recommendations to different audiences.
• Has an in depth understanding of how to optimise the efficiency, compliance, and security of platforms and technical services.
• Experience in either:
o developing end to end technology architecture solutions within the Digital Service, Data, Artificial Intelligence, Network and Gateway and/or Cloud (AWS/Azure).
o Developing patterns, reference architecture and architecture principles for Data Architecture or AI Architecture.
Location and Contract Term: This role is based in Melbourne, Brisbane, Canberra, Adelaide. 12 month contract with 2x12-month extension options pending budget and delegate approval.
Security Requirements: Applicants must be Australian Citizens and hold a baseline security clearance.
