Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service (PYMHWS)
is Victoria's newest public mental health service dedicated to the care of young people aged 12 to 25 experiencing complex mental health challenges.

The Opportunity
Our service is made up of compassionate, curious, and committed people. As we continue to grow, we are looking for a Consultant Psychiatrist who will carry out their duties in consultation with and under the guidance of the Medical Director and DCS. The Consultant Psychiatrist may be required to undertake the statutory responsibilities of the Authorised Psychiatrist for PYMHWS, as required by the Mental Health Act.

About The Roles
Consultant Psychiatrists work in close partnership with the Medical Director, Clinical Director of Community and Enhanced Care, Clinical Director of Acute, Admitted Care and FYMHS, and the Operational Director as well as with Regional and team leadership.

The Roles Of The Consultant Psychiatrist Are

* To provide expert clinical leadership to the clinical team including maintaining high clinical standards, team professional development and supervision of team registrars and other staff as needed.
* To provide leadership more generally across PYMHWS by participating as requested in quality and risk, service development and innovation meetings as requested.
* The Consultant Psychiatrist will carry out their duties in consultation with and under the guidance of the Medical Director and DCS. The Consultant Psychiatrist may be required to undertake the statutory responsibilities of the Authorised Psychiatrist for PYMHWS, as required by the Mental Health Act.

Currently we are seeking Consultant Psychiatrists for the roles of:

Youth Access Team 0.4 FTE (28 hpf)
Leading a MDT to provide Acute care to young people and families who are presenting to the service for the first time or currently in care of our Community Teams. This role is an exciting mix of acute care, assessment and formulation, offering developmentally focused psychosocial and psychiatric care.

Eating Disorders Sunshine 0.4 FTE (28 hpf)
The Eating Disorders Clinical Stream is aimed at providing integrated care for Young People with Eating Disorders residing in the Western Region and support for all areas of the clinical program in managing young people within the service who have a severe eating disorder and their families/supports.

Pathways Team (0.4 FTE – 28hrs pfn Inner West and Northern Region + 0.6FTE 42 hrs pfn Western and South West Region)
Leading a brand new community based service at PYHMWS, leading a MDT providing short term case management for young people and their families who require care in the Continuing Care Teams but who do not have a clear primary diagnosis aligned with current Community Streams.

Continuing Care Teams – (0.6 FTE 42hpf)
Our Community Care teams providing integrated, evidence based, developmentally appropriate care for young people and their families across the 12-26 year age range in both Early Intervention, Recovery and Prolonged Recovery phases of treatment. Teams are EPPIC/PACE, Youth Mood Clinic, Neurodevelopmental Disorders and Eating Disorders.

The Consultant Psychiatrist is a key clinical leadership position. At the Service level (PYHMWS and key stakeholders), the incumbent will provide leadership, and the provision of secondary consultation and capacity building opportunities across their programs. At the Team level, the incumbent will provide clinical governance, training and supervision for a multidisciplinary team of senior clinicians and registrar specialising in the provision of comprehensive assessment, treatment and community linkages for clients referred to the service.

The incumbent is expected to have considerable experience in working with children, young people and their families with a knowledge of Early Intervention principles of care. Further, they will demonstrate an understanding of clinical care needs that are responsive to the child or young person's developmental stage and presenting issues and informed by existing evidence and guidelines.

What You'll Do
The Consultant Psychiatrist will carry out their duties in consultation with and under the guidance of the Medical Director and DCS. The Consultant Psychiatrist may be required to undertake the statutory responsibilities of the Authorised Psychiatrist for PYMHWS, as required by the Mental Health Act.

You Will

* Provide Medical Leadership to a passionate, experienced multidisciplinary team of Mental Health nurses, Clinical Psychologists and Allied Health and lived experience workforce
* Deliver Youth focused care to young people aged 12-25 and their families who live in the catchment area
* Supervise Psychiatry Registrars
* Participate in the PYMHWS on call roster 5-6 weeks per calendar year
* Participate in the PYMHWS Medical Education and Training Program

About You
Registration as a medical practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency.

Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists or equivalent.

Ability to demonstrate skills in multidisciplinary work and the development of effective working relationships with consumers and carers.

Ability to demonstrate aptitude for and expertise in service development.

Knowledge of the Victorian Mental Health Wellbeing Act 2022.

Capacity to develop effective working relationships, collaborations and partnerships with a range of services within the broader community service system including alcohol and other drug agencies, employment and housing services, Mental Health Community Support Services and related services.
