Position Title: Mechanic
Salary: Up to $120K + Superannuation
Overview
This is a unique opportunity for a highly skilled and experienced Mechanic to live and work on the beautiful Lindeman Island in the Whitsundays. The successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and overall management of a diverse range of plant and equipment, including both heavy‑duty and light vehicles, with diesel, petrol, 2‑stroke, and 4‑stroke engines. Marine engine experience is a must. This role requires a proactive problem‑solver with exceptional diagnostic skills, a strong understanding of electronic systems, and the ability to work flexibly and contribute to various island operations.
Key Responsibilities
Plant and Equipment Maintenance
* Oversee the maintenance and repair of all heavy‑duty plant and equipment, including excavators, loaders, generators, and other construction machinery.
* Manage the maintenance and repair of all light vehicles, including cars, trucks, and utility vehicles.
* Maintain and repair a variety of engines, including diesel, petrol, 2‑stroke, and 4‑stroke.
* Conduct regular inspections and preventative maintenance on all equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimise downtime.
* Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical faults efficiently and accurately.
Electrical Systems
* Maintain a strong understanding of 12‑volt and 24‑volt electrical systems in both heavy‑duty plant and light vehicles.
* Diagnose and repair electrical faults, including wiring issues, component failures, and system malfunctions.
* Install and configure electrical components and systems as needed.
Problem Solving and Troubleshooting
* Serve as the primary point of contact for all mechanical and electrical issues on the island.
* Utilise advanced diagnostic techniques and equipment to identify and resolve complex problems.
* Develop and implement effective solutions to minimise equipment downtime and maximise operational efficiency.
Parts and Inventory Management
* Manage the inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment.
* Source and order parts as needed, ensuring timely delivery and cost‑effectiveness.
* Maintain accurate records of all maintenance and repair activities.
Safety and Compliance
* Adhere to all relevant safety regulations and procedures.
* Ensure that all work is performed to the highest standards of quality and safety.
* Maintain a clean and organised work environment.
General Duties and Flexibility
* Be flexible and willing to assist with various other duties related to island operations, as directed by the Construction Manager/Chief Engineer.
* This may include assisting with other maintenance tasks, supporting other teams, or contributing to general island upkeep.
* Demonstrate a proactive and positive attitude towards all tasks.
Qualifications and Experience
* Trade qualification as a Mechanic or Diesel Fitter.
* Extensive experience in the maintenance and repair of both LV and HV plant and equipment.
* Proven experience with light equipment maintenance and repair.
* Proven experience with tracked and hydraulic HV plant and equipment.
* Strong understanding of 12‑volt and 24‑volt electrical systems.
* Excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
* Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and diagrams.
* Valid driver's licence.
* Welding and fabrication skills with both stick and MIG welders.
* Experience working in a remote location or island environment.
* Experience with generators and other power generation equipment.
* Experience with marine engines and servicing.
* Construction white card.
