About the Role This newly created senior leadership position offers the opportunity to build and lead the legal function across APAC. Based in Sydney or Melbourne, you will be the principal legal advisor to the EVP APAC and regional leadership team, ensuring legal and commercial excellence across a growing, complex, and fast-paced business. The business is undertaking a strategic transformation to a modern SaaS based technology offering. This will provide a lawyer with a great opportunity to develop skills and experience in this fast-growing area. You will oversee the APAC Commercial team, partner with the Compliance function, and work at the heart of the company’s strategic expansion in the region. This is a rare opportunity to set the legal agenda for APAC within a well-resourced and globally recognised technology company. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Strategy – Establish and lead the APAC legal function, aligning legal strategy with commercial and corporate objectives. Advisory Excellence – Serve as trusted counsel to the regional executive team, supporting strategic growth initiatives and commercial decision-making. Commercial & Contracting – Oversee complex commercial contracts, IP/licensing, supplier agreements, and dispute resolution. Corporate Transactions – Support regional M&A activity in collaboration with the Corporate Development team. Governance & Compliance – Partner with Compliance to manage regulatory matters, incident response, and legal risk across APAC jurisdictions. People Leadership – Lead the regional Commercial team, fostering high performance, professional development, and operational excellence. External Counsel Management – Manage relationships with legal providers and optimise external legal spend. Skills & Experience Australian-qualified solicitor with a minimum of 10 years’ PQE. Strong commercial law expertise, ideally in technology/SaaS. Proven record as a legal or functional team leader, preferably within a technology-focused or private equity-backed environment. Experience working in an organisation going through change - transformation would be advantageous. Background working in a global matrix structure would also be helpful. International legal experience across APAC is highly regarded. Exceptional stakeholder management and influencing skills. Commercially astute, pragmatic, and solutions-oriented. Demonstrated success in driving business improvements and legal transformation.
