The Aboriginal Hospital Liaison Officer (AHLO) is responsible for supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people when dealing with health-related issues at Fairfield Hospital. The AHLO is required to work effectively with hospital staff and other agencies in the community, in order to provide support and assistance to persons and families receiving care at Fairfield Hospital.

**What you'll be doing**
The Aboriginal Liaison Officer (ALO) is responsible for supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients/carers/consumers in hospital settings.

The position is required to work as part of the hospital multidisciplinary team in order to:

- ensure the health, psychosocial and cultural needs of Aboriginal patients and their families/carers are taken into account when care is being provided.
- support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and their families/carers to build their health literacy and capacity to manage their health issues.

The ALO is required to work effectively with staff of the hospital and other agencies including local Aboriginal Medical Service (AMS) and related community based services, in order to provide support and assistance to patients/carers/consumers receiving care from the hospital and community health services.
The position is also responsible for supporting effective transfer of care arrangements for Aboriginal patients to ensure they are linked to appropriate community based services.

**Where You'll Be Working**
The hospital sits close to public transport (T-Way), Public Schools, a major shopping centre and has an onsite cafeteria. Ample onsite parking is available with only a short walk from the carpark to the hospital.
