Are you a confident ER/IR specialist who has experience partnering with leaders to solve complex people challenges and shape a positive workplace culture? This is a key opportunity to join Banyule City Council as a People & Culture Business Partner and play a central role in delivering our People Strategy and organisational priorities.

In this role, you'll be the trusted advisor that leaders turn to for expert guidance on employee and industrial relations, change management and complex workplace issues. Your work will directly support safe, fair and inclusive workplaces and help protect Council's reputation as a trusted and responsive leader in the community.

Why you'll love this role and what you'll do

Reporting to the Senior People & Culture Business Partner and working within the ER/IR Business Partner team, you will:

* Provide expert advice on ER/IR matters, including grievances, investigations, performance, and complex workplace issues.
* Manage ER cases end to end, ensuring compliance with legislation, Council's Enterprise Agreement, and workplace policies.
* Partner with leaders across Council to deliver fair, effective change and consultation processes.
* Draft and refine HR policies and frameworks aligned with legislation, best practice, and organisational priorities.
* Use HRIS data to deliver reporting and insights that support informed decision‐making.
* Build strong internal and external relationships to manage risk and prevent disputes.
* Support industrial relations and negotiations, including liaising with unions and playing a key role in driving consultative committee outcomes.

What you'll bring / what we are looking for

You are an experienced, pragmatic, solutions‐focused HR/ER professional who can effectively balance the employee experience, organisational risk and strategic outcomes. You'll bring:

* Tertiary qualifications in Human Resources, Industrial Relations or a related discipline.
* Significant experience in ER/IR, adept and comfortable advising management on grievance matters, leading complex performance matters and conducting investigations.
* Demonstrated experience applying the Fair Work Act, Local Government Act 2020 and Enterprise Agreements in a complex environment.
* Strong change management capability – your experience enables you to design and guide fair, transparent and compliant change processes that maintain engagement.
* Highly developed emotional intelligence and judgement, you are experienced navigating sensitive, high‐risk scenarios and you provide clear, pragmatic advice.
* Excellent stakeholder engagement skills – you influence, coach and build capability in leaders.
* Strong written skills to prepare documentation, policies, reports and advice that is clear, accurate and fit for purpose.
