About the role
As Principal Architect, you will partner closely with People, Corporate Affairs & Community (CAC) leadership teams and senior technology stakeholders, providing clear architectural direction and trusted leadership. Your focus will be on ensuring technology investments are maximised, aligned to Westpac's vision, and enable meaningful, sustainable outcomes.
The Solution Architecture function within Westpac Solutions plays a critical role in translating Enterprise Architecture strategy into practical, high‐impact solutions. This role ensures solution architectures align to established roadmaps while adhering to enterprise architecture principles.
Importanty, this is a people‐led, hands‐on leadership role. You will lead a team responsible for developing, maintaining, and communicating high‐level investment plans across the IT landscape—shaping an architecture strategy that enables transformation, modernisation, and innovation at scale.

* Build and manage strong relationships with senior stakeholders across the People and Corporate Affairs & Community domains and the broader technology community, acting as a trusted advisor and strategic technology partner
* Provide thought leadership by identifying emerging technologies (including AI) and industry trends, influencing decision‐making and embedding insights into domain roadmaps
* Develop, maintain and clearly communicate People & CAC domain execution roadmaps aligned to Westpac's technology strategy
* Drive simplification, modernisation, and technical debt reduction across systems within the People and Corporate Affairs & Community domains
* Guide solution architects and engineering teams through architecture standards, principles, and reference designs with clarity and pragmatism
* Influence technology investment prioritisation and sequencing through well‐defined and actionable domain roadmaps
* Uplift team capability to deliver AI priorities across both domains
* Build sustainable capability within your team to deliver and scale AI initiatives
* Provide people leadership for solution architects, including performance reviews, development planning, coaching, and career growth
Accountabilities include:
* Developing, maintaining and communicating People & CAC domain execution roadmaps consistent with technology strategy
* Providing technology architecture governance for People & CAC solutions, ensuring alignment to architecture standards, principles and reference designs
* Delivering technology leadership and advice to uplift technology change, including the effective use of AI
* Leading and managing the discovery, evaluation and selection of technology solutions
* Developing solution architectures, artefacts, patterns and designs aligned to strategy and roadmaps, while meeting security, compliance and risk requirements
* Supporting business requests to inform technology investments and roadmap reviews, including Architecture Impact Assessments and pre‐project budgetary guidance outside the Project Lifecycle
* Leading, coaching and managing solution architects across the People & CAC domains, with a strong focus on growth, capability and performance
* Uplifting team capability to deliver AI priorities across both domains
* Ensuring domain‐level execution roadmaps are actively used by business and technology leaders to guide short‐ and mid‐term decisions
* Delivering technology solutions aligned to Westpac's progressive modernisation strategy, driving transformation across the Group
* Ensuring the right people with the right skills are available at the right time to support strategic and operational priorities
* Providing architecture assurance, design reviews, and executive‐level insights to support informed decision‐making
* Leading experimentation and exploration of AI initiatives
Qualifications
* Significant senior solution architecture expertise with demonstrated leadership experience gained within a large, complex organisation
* Strong experience working with established architecture frameworks (e.g. TOGAF or equivalent)
* Advanced stakeholder management and influencing capability, underpinned by strategic thinking and systems‐level problem solving
* Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts for diverse audiences
* A pragmatic, outcomes‐focused approach to decision‐making, balancing risk, cost and value through collaboration
* Senior engineering and solution architecture experience across corporate applications and AI
