Role Purpose

This is a unique leadership opportunity to build and scale a modern Legal & Compliance function in a technology driven business. You'll work at the intersection of law, innovation, security, data, and emerging tech—shaping the company's governance foundations as it continues to grow.

Permaconn is seeking a senior leader to shape the company's legal, governance, and compliance strategy during a period of significant growth and innovation, globally. This role partners closely with the Executive Leadership Team and influences decision making across commercial, product, technology, and regulatory domains. It is both strategic and hands‐on, ideal for a pragmatic, commercially minded legal professional who thrives in fast paced scale‐up environments.

The role covers our entire contract and legal lifecycle, focusing predominantly on uplifting and negotiating our customer‐facing agreements, implementing a contract management system, while navigating the regulatory environments we operate in.

Core ResponsibilitiesLegal Leadership
* Contract drafting and negotiation: Take charge of drafting, reviewing, and negotiating all contract types that are critical to our growth success. This also includes making sure we have a robust and repeatable contract framework that can be leveraged across the different business lines.
* Document governance: Implement and maintain a contract management system to provide a controlled and searchable database for all our agreements. Developing a library of easy to adapt templates will be a crucial role requirement.
* Legal partner: Be the legal brain and partner of the business across key areas including compliance, IP, data and privacy, consumer law, corporate law, employment, and commercial risk — partnering closely with senior commercial leadership across the wider business to balance risk and pragmatism.
* Strategic projects: Help with M&A and other strategic partnerships and deals as they pop‐up, from due diligence and structuring assistance to negotiation and execution.
* External counsel management: Manage and work with external legal counsel (as required), ensuring value for money and alignment with business purposes — but you're not afraid to back your own judgment.
* Governance frameworks: Develop and maintain the risk management framework and internal policies
* Legal risk and compliance: Take a proactive approach to manage potential legal risks associated with current and prospective contracts and practices, including finding innovative mitigation solutions. Ensure compliance of all contracts with relevant laws and regulations, including data privacy and industry‐specific requirements.
* Compliance programme leadership: Partner with the business on ISO compliance activities as required
* Manage regulatory developments: Monitor regulatory developments (ASIC, APRA, OAIC): and advise on emerging obligations, including data and AI governance.
* Manage regulator engagements: including preparing submissions and responding to enquiries.
* Develop and deliver compliance training and capability uplift across the business.
Cross Functional Collaboration
* Partner early with product, technology, data, security, sales, and marketing teams to provide practical, risk‐calibrated legal guidance.
* Embed compliance and governance into business processes, driving a culture of accountability.
* Support operational teams on day‐to‐day legal and compliance matters in a fastmoving technology environment.
Required ExperienceYou will be successful in this role if you are
* A senior lawyer (8+ years PQE) with experience in commercial, corporate, regulatory, or technology law.
* Experienced in high growth or technology enabled businesses, or from top tier private practice, in house roles, or Big 4 risk/regulatory consulting, with substantial expertise in drafting and negotiating high‐value commercial contracts.
* Skilled in areas including data protection (GDPR, Australian Privacy Act), competition law, IP, marketing law, and global regulatory frameworks.
* Comfortable providing guidance in ambiguous areas where regulations are still developing (e.g., data & AI governance).
* Experienced in developing risk management frameworks and compliance activities.
* Experienced with supporting ISO accreditations globally
* Experienced in document management systems or repositories
* A strong communicator able to influence stakeholders from Board level to operational teams.
* A self‐starter with high energy, strong judgment, and the ability to balance commercial priorities with legal integrity.
* Passionate about technology, data, SaaS, and emerging digital ecosystems.
Attributes

While commercial law experience is essential to this role, you must come with a commercial mind set, a taste and eagerness for technical innovation with the ability to balance legal risks with the commercial and operational needs of the business. You should be able to demonstrate strong, effective and impactful communication skills with people at all levels and backgrounds, being able to multitask with rapidly changing priorities in a dynamic working environment.

Why Join Us?

This role offers the opportunity to make a tangible, high‐impact contribution by directly shaping the legal and compliance backbone of our commercial and technical operations within Australia and other markets. We offer competitive remuneration, and the chance to work closely with senior leadership to drive strategic business growth.
