Senior Mandarin Language Tutor
About the Role
An established private language and culture school in Victoria is seeking an experienced Senior Mandarin Language Tutor to deliver high-quality Mandarin language tutoring and lead curriculum development for students from Kindergarten to Year 9.
This role's core focus is on delivering engaging, structured Mandarin language lessons while also designing and leading a comprehensive Mandarin language and culture curriculum, authoring original resources, developing assessments, and mentoring other tutors.
Location – Ashburton Vic
Salary – negotiable in the range $80k to $90k plus superannuation, per annum
Tenure – full time and ongoing
Key Responsibilities include
Deliver Mandarin language tutoring to children (K–9) in small-group and one-on-one formats, both face-to-face and online.
Prepare and present engaging lessons that develop speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills, and foster cultural understanding.
Develop, document, and maintain a structured K–9 Mandarin language and culture curriculum, adapting content for Victorian school learners.
Author original teaching resources including textbooks, workbooks, lesson plans, and interactive digital modules.
Design and implement assessments, marking rubrics, and provide detailed progress reports to parents / carers.
Recruit, supervise, coach, and mentor casual and part-time tutors; conduct lesson observations and professional development workshops.
Keep abreast of developments in Mandarin language teaching through professional training, conferences, and current literature.
Plan and deliver Mandarin cultural workshops, seasonal programs, and community engagement events.
Monitor program performance indicators and implement improvement strategies.
School Administration Duties
Skills, Qualifications, and Experience
Substantial experience (minimum 5 years, ideally, much more) in teaching Mandarin language and culture.
Experience in private tuition school management, including program coordination, staff supervision, and operational oversight.
Sound understanding of Mandarin language and culture and the ability to integrate cultural elements into language instruction.
Highly relevant University level qualifications, or a suitable agreed substitute
Certification in Teaching Chinese / Mandarin Language.
Experience in designing and leading Mandarin language curriculum.
Secondary and Tertiary education where all instruction was in Mandarin language.
Native fluency in Mandarin and excellent English communication skills.
Proven ability to develop curriculum and author teaching resources.
Strong classroom management, organisational, and interpersonal skills.
Current Working With Children Check (WWCC) and ability to meet all child safety requirements.
Current valid driver's licence and ability to travel between school campuses in Ashburton and Balwyn
