For more than 40 years, the North Qld Export Terminal, located at the Port of Abbot Point, has demonstrated its commitment to safety, efficiency, responsibility, and partnership with the local community.
APO has been contracted by North Queensland Export Terminal Pty Ltd to manage operations of it's coal export terminal at the Port of Abbot Point - Australia's northernmost coal port - located 25 kilometres north of Bowen, between Townsville and Mackay, serving as the gateway to the Whitsundays.
We are now seeking a dynamic and influential senior leader to take on the position of Manager – Health, Safety, Environment & Community (HSEC). Reporting directly to the General Manager and forming a key part of our Senior Leadership Team, this role will provide strategic oversight and operational leadership across all HSEC disciplines.
You will guide a multidisciplinary team, support organisational leaders, and champion initiatives that build a positive, high-performing culture focused on safety, environmental stewardship, and genuine community engagement. This is a pivotal role driving APO's ongoing commitment to responsible and sustainable operations.
What You'll Do:
* Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing HSEC team, setting clear expectations and driving strong cultural and behavioural alignment.
* Provide visible, values-based leadership across the site through regular engagement with employees, contractors, and community stakeholders.
* Shape and embed proactive safety, environmental, and community practices that align with organisational strategy and regulatory expectations.
* Oversee key management systems, ensuring compliance with ISO standards, statutory obligations, environmental approvals, and internal governance requirements.
* Guide critical risk, environmental risk, and community impact management activities, ensuring consistent and informed decision-making.
* Partner with operational and project leaders to ensure HSEC considerations are embedded in planning, execution, and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Drive strategic improvement projects and innovation in collaboration with the General Manager and Senior Leadership Team.
* Strengthen APO's community engagement initiatives, ensuring transparent, respectful, and constructive relationships with local stakeholders.

* A well-rounded senior leader with demonstrated success across one or more HSEC disciplines and the capability to lead all four areas holistically.
* Demonstrated capability in developing teams, lifting performance, and shaping a positive safety culture.
* Strong working knowledge of management systems, risk frameworks, regulatory obligations, and contemporary best practice.
* Exceptional stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to influence, coach, and partner with leaders at all levels.
* Demonstrated capability in managing strategic and operational HSEC priorities simultaneously.
