We are seeking a temporary Commercial Specialist - FTC to join our Finance & Business Performance division. This fixed term opportunity will be for a period of up to 10 months.

The Opportunity

The role delivers planning and execution of commercial and procurement outcomes across Hunter Water's strategic and complex projects. It combines commercial acumen, market insight, sourcing and contracting capability to plan and manage procurement, negotiate contracts, manage supplier performance, and drive value for money for Hunter Water, our customers and Shareholder.

What you'll do:

* Lead end‑to‑end procurement and commercial processes, including planning, market analysis, sourcing strategies, tender management, evaluation, contract drafting, negotiation and finalisation, ensuring compliance, probity and value for money.
* Build and maintain strong stakeholder and supplier relationships, aligning procurement strategies with business objectives and collaborating across Legal, Project and governance teams.
* Manage contract and supplier performance, resolving issues, driving continuous improvement, monitoring delivery outcomes, and managing commercial risks, financial exposure, liability, indemnity and IP matters.
* Develop and implement commercial frameworks and strategies, including pricing, negotiation mandates, category planning, sustainability, social procurement and modern slavery requirements.
* Use data, reporting and continuous improvement practices to analyse trends, identify risks and opportunities, refine tools and templates, capture lessons learned, and provide accurate commercial and performance reporting to support decision‑making.

What you'll need to be successful:

Essential Criteria:

* Qualified and experienced procurement professional, with tertiary education in a relevant field and proven capability in end‑to‑end procurement, strategic sourcing and complex commercial negotiations.
* Strong knowledge of NSW Government procurement frameworks, probity principles and internal governance requirements, with the ability to develop compliant plans, reports and contract documentation.
* Commercially and financially astute, able to assess total cost of ownership, value for money, risk allocation and partnership/strategic alliance opportunities.
* Highly organised and effective leader, skilled at managing multiple concurrent procurements, influencing multidisciplinary teams and driving continuous improvement.
* Excellent relationship-builder, collaborating effectively with project teams, legal, finance and external stakeholders to deliver practical, customer‑focused business outcomes.

Desirable Criteria:

* Post Graduate qualifications in supply chain, contracts, engineering or related field.
* Experience working in and supporting high-performing teams.
* Experience preparing procurement strategy papers and evaluation reports.
* Work Experience in a complex regulated environment, utility or government sector.
