As a key leader in the Energy & Resources team, you will play a pivotal role in Transmission & Distribution (T&D) projects.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Providing leadership and oversight for Transmission and Substation projects, from concept development to final detailed designs.
2. Offering technical support to team members to ensure high-quality project delivery.
3. Preparing, reviewing, and approving technical reports, drawings, and plans for Transmission and Substation projects.
4. Developing project scopes, estimates, budgets, and schedules for all components of Transmission and Substation projects.
5. Guiding material selection and safety reviews during design and constructability phases, providing oversight to ensure compliance and efficiency.
6. Providing technical leadership on Transmission structure geometries, structure modeling, and line hardware.
7. Driving business development and sales efforts for large CAPEX projects, engaging prospective clients and expanding the project portfolio.
8. Contribute to bid preparation by providing key design inputs, estimating design hours, and assembling large tenders effectively.
Strong relationships with internal teams, offices, and external organizations are essential for this role. You will also contribute to client understanding by maintaining up-to-date knowledge of their business, drivers, competitors, and industry trends.
Requirements
15+ years' experience working on Transmission and Substation projects;
Relevant engineering degree with Chartered and RPEQ/RPEV status or equivalent professional accreditation;
Previous experience in the Australian power industry such as working for an engineering firm or Australian Transmission utility;
Significant consulting experience on projects of significant scale and complexity;
Demonstrated technical, commercial, and delivery acumen;
Proficient in design of steel structures, concrete structures, geotechnical engineering, and foundation design;
A detailed understanding of Line Design Principles and relevant Australian Standards e.g. AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 7000, AS/NZS 1170, AS 4100 & ASCE 10-15 design standard;
Relevant line design experience and proficient use of PLS CADD, PLS-TOWER, PLS POLE, Microstran, SpaceGass;
Relevant lattice tower design and modeling experience;
Proficient in line layout design, pole top geometry design, Insulator assembly design, conductor and line rating studies, noise and induction studies, pole foundation design;
Knowledge of GIS, LiDAR, and advanced survey techniques for line routing;
Knowledge of construction considerations and maintenance load evaluations;
Proficient in various foundation types including drilled piers, spread footers, and transformer pads;
Knowledge and understanding of underground transmission design processes, calculations, and drawings;
Knowledge and understanding of civil engineering site development practices such as site planning, grading, excavation, drainage, roadways as related to substations facilities, transmission facilities, and right-of-ways;
Proficient in substation structure design, rigid bus design, foundation design, oil spill containment design, retaining walls, masonry control shelters, and firewalls;
Familiarity with power system and earthing modeling software;
Proven ability to lead project teams with strong skills in influencing, motivating, and delegating; paired with excellent communication and relationship-building capabilities, both internally and externally.
