The Team

The role of Clinical Nurse Specialist is a senior role located in Peacock House, a 12-bed acute treatment unit within Peacock Centre. Peacock House is a trauma‐informed, recovery‐oriented service co‐located with the Integration Hub, Safe Haven and Recovery College.

The Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated mental health nurse who, alongside the Clinical Nurse Consultant during business hours, will provide advanced clinical leadership within the Peacock Acute Treatment Unit. This role is in charge of the shift outside business hours, including the night shift. In this pivotal role, you will deliver specialist, recovery‐focused assessment and intervention for a designated caseload, while acting as a key resource for staff managing complex clinical presentations. You will contribute actively to multidisciplinary team processes (including peer workers), support outcome‐focused care planning, and maintain high‐quality clinical documentation. The position strengthens collaborative relationships across the mental health sector, including NGOs and partner services, and may require acting as an Authorised Officer under the Mental Health Act. You will coordinate nursing care delivery, oversee safe medication practices, and support the overnight operations of the Statewide Mental Health Services triage service. Additionally, you will contribute to the development of clinical guidelines, policies and procedures that enhance service quality and best practice.

This role also has a leadership responsibility ensuring delivery of the NSQHS standards and participating in and reporting to standard committees.

Position Features

* A leadership role providing trauma‐informed, recovery‐oriented and compassionate care to people.
* A twenty‐hour rotating roster.
* Collaboration with other services within Peacock Centre, including the Integration Hub, the Safe Haven and the Recovery College.
* Peacock House accepts referrals from inpatient areas, community mental health teams and the Safe Haven.

You will need

* To be a Registered Nurse.
* To have mental health experience.
* It is desirable to be working towards or to possess a post‐graduate qualification in mental health.
* To have a passion to work in a trauma‐informed, person‐centred framework.

Details of Appointment

Permanent, full‐time shift worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible. Part‐time applications may be considered. Notwithstanding, hours will be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full‐time, part‐time, and casual vacancies.

Salary

$109,767 to $115,813 per annum. Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount. Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.

Additional allowances based on the salaried incremental point may be available: post‐graduate allowance of up to 10% based on qualification type.

Eligibility

Successful applicants must meet the essential criteria:

* Registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse and possess specialist tertiary graduate or post‐graduate mental health/psychiatric nursing qualification; or completed, prior to the transfer of nurse education to the tertiary sector, an accredited hospital‐based program that led to registration as a psychiatric nurse by the relevant nurse regulatory authority within Australia, New Zealand, Canada or the United Kingdom.
* Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role; the employee is responsible for ensuring registration/licences remain current and must advise the Employer if circumstances change (including revocation, cancellation or change of conditions).

Desirable criteria:

* Holds or is working towards relevant tertiary qualifications.
