Our Client are seeking a Corporate Counsel to join their growing Legal team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced lawyer who thrives on complex legal challenges, values purpose, and enjoys translating legal complexity into practical business advice. They are a leader in providing services and infrastructure solutions in the Melbourne region.
About the role
Reporting to the General Counsel, you’ll play a key role in ensuring our client performs its statutory functions and achieves its strategic objectives in compliance and legal obligations.
Your work will span a diverse range of matters including:
- Providing clear, pragmatic legal advice on public law, governance, and commercial issues.
- Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a variety of commercial contracts, including construction, supply and property agreements.
- Managing and overseeing external legal providers and associated legal costs.
- Advising on privacy, freedom of information, and other compliance frameworks.
- Preparing and contributing to legal reports, board papers and corporate documents such as the Annual and Strategic Plans.
About you
You’re a commercially astute lawyer who enjoys working at the intersection of purpose and complex regulation. You bring:
- A law degree and current Australian legal practising certificate.
- At least five years’ post‑admission experience gained in a major law firm or in‑house environment.
- Strong experience in commercial contracting, regulatory compliance, and statutory interpretation.
- A solid understanding of privacy, FOI and governance obligations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distil complex legal issues into clear, practical advice.
- A collaborative, solutions‑focused approach and the confidence to influence across all levels of the organisation.
