**The Role**
The Manager, Government Relations & Public Policy is responsible for the development and management of government engagement strategies and public policy advocacy for APLNG. The position requires the ability to understand and articulate the commercial implication of proposed policy and regulatory arrangements to internal and external stakeholders. The position will work closely with senior APLNG managers, Origin Corporate Affairs and shareholder government relations and public policy teams.
**Responsibilities & Duties**
- Developing and managing APLNG's government engagement strategy for Queensland and the APLNG Federal engagement strategy
- Interfacing with Queensland and Federal MPs on issues relevant to APLNG
- Responding to policy and regulatory issues on behalf of APLNG
- Identifying appropriate government engagement opportunities and events for APLNG CEO and management
- Providing expert advice on government relations and policy options to APLNG CEO and other business leaders
- Monitoring emerging government and policy issues and developing APLNG submissions at both State and Federal government levels
- Collaborate and provide support to other parts of the APLNG business as required, particularly regarding the commercial implications of proposed policy and regulatory arrangements.
- Actively engage and manage APLNG's relationship with industry peak bodies, including QRC and APPEA and support the APLNG CEO in his/her roles on Peak Body Boards
- Prepare internal reports/documents to inform Shareholders of matters relating to Government relations and public policy as appropriate (including Committee papers, monthly report etc.)
- Lead the monthly APLNG Corporate Affairs Shareholder Forum and other key information sharing meetings
- Drive a strong 'One Team' culture between APLNG shareholders and among the Origin Corporate Affairs Team.
- Working with the APLNG Shareholder government relations and public policy teams to achieve outcomes with government and other stakeholders that advance APLNG's business interests.
**About you**
- Previous experience in a similar role focussed on government relations and policy, ideally in the energy industry
- Experience in working with upstream, energy market and carbon policy issues
- The ability to build and maintain relationships in senior levels of government
- Experience with representing a company on peak body working groups
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex and challenging issues
- Strong advocacy skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills with experience in report and submission writing
- Understanding of Government political and decision making processes.
