The Opportunity
James Cook University (JCU) is seeking an exceptional leader in Speech Pathology to join the College of Healthcare Sciences as the Associate Professor and Academic Head. This role provides an exciting opportunity to shape the future of speech pathology education, research, and clinical practice across northern Australia and beyond.
As Academic Head, you will provide strategic leadership for the discipline, guiding innovative curriculum design, fostering excellence in learning and teaching, and strengthening research and professional engagement within the university and across the health sector.
What You'll Do
Lead the discipline of Speech Pathology through strategic, academic, and operational leadership.
Drive innovative curriculum development and delivery using evidence-based, blended, and future-focused approaches.
Mentor academic staff and inspire the next generation of speech pathology educators and researchers.
Strengthen connections with professional, industry, and community partners to enhance learning and research outcomes.
Conduct and lead impactful research that contributes to the advancement of the field and JCU's regional health mission.
Contribute to policy, governance, and academic excellence within the College of Healthcare Sciences.
About You
You are an accomplished academic and registered Speech Pathologist with a strong reputation for innovation, collaboration, and leadership. You'll bring:
A PhD (or equivalent) in Speech Pathology or a related discipline.
Eligibility for certification as a Speech Pathologist with Speech Pathology Australia.
Demonstrated academic leadership, with experience in curriculum design, flexible delivery, and quality learning and teaching.
A strong research profile, with evidence of publication, grant success, and higher degree research supervision.
Proven ability to build relationships and lead effectively in cross-cultural and multidisciplinary settings.
Experience working in regional, rural, or remote health contexts or with Australia's First Nations communities.
Recognition for excellence in teaching and/or research.
