About the role
As the Environmental Senior Specialist, you will be responsible for the detailed analysis, planning, execution and technical evaluations to lead, coordinate and write Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), in particular, Review of Environmental Factors (REF), seeking consent and ensuring compliance with the relevant legislation to safeguard Essential Energy against legal liability.The role will require community interaction, including attending community information sessions or presenting to the community about projects.
The position will take ownership for the identification of environmental issues and advise on broader environmental constraints and risks associated with network operations. The position is a key environmental leadership role with organisation wide responsibilities in the implementation of environmental law ensuring compliance with statutory requirements.
The role will support the connection of major complex connections and Essential Energy's unregulated business, Intium. Establishing and managing budgets and delivering approvals within time critical limitations are fundamental requirements of the role.
This role will be based within the Essential Energy footprint with the ability to work from home in a hybrid work environment.
Key responsibilities:
* Guide delivery of the EIA process for the business in accordance with the requirements of the NSW Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, other applicable environmental legislation and corporate policies and procedures
* Initiate the provision of specialised environmental services in the research, identification, development, design and implementation of key strategic detailed environmental analysis for the network.
* Lead the coordination of services providers in the delivery of environmental impact assessments and consent processes for projects across the organisation.
* Improve environmental performance by driving compliance with relevant environmental legislative and regulatory requirements.
* Support and provide input into the design and delivery of strategies, frameworks, policies and practices for the business as they relate to environmental planning and management.
* Be a subject matter expert for EIA and approvals within the business.
* Conduct detailed analysis and problem solving with a particular focus on major/complex projects and customer connections.
* Identify, establish and foster key business, regulatory body, stakeholder and customer relationships ensuring all project and process issues are addressed to meet agreed outcomes.
About You
To succeed in this role, you will have strong professional experience in an environmental planning, impact assessment and approvals and ideally with linear infrastructure experience with excellent writing skills. You will have a demonstrated ability to work autonomously delivering high quality reports containing complex and variable environmental aspects on budget and within a tight timeframe.
You will have excellent conceptual analytical and critical thinking skills,in identifying improvements and initiating change. You will have the demonstrated skills and capacity to successfully manage complex issues within a team environment.
Required Qualifications
* Bachelor of Science, Engineering or Planning or demonstrated capability through past employment experience and/or relevant qualifications
* White Card – Workcover Induction for Construction Work – General Course
* Drivers licence
