Offer description

Join to apply for the Intermediate Frontend Engineer (Vue.js), Plan: Product Planning role at GitLab.

GitLab is an open-core software company that develops an AI-powered DevSecOps Platform used by more than 100,000 organizations. Our mission is to enable everyone to contribute to and co-create the software that powers our world. We value collaboration, innovation, and contribution across teams and disciplines as we build technology that transforms how the world develops software.

An overview of this role

As a frontend engineer on the Plan: Product Planning team you’ll work primarily on the work-items views. Read more in our epics: lists, agile boards, table view, saved views. We’re currently a team of 5 backend, 3 frontend, and 1 fullstack engineer, a product manager, an engineering manager, and a designer. We work in smaller sub-teams of 2-5 engineers focusing on a single project for 1-3 months. Every month one engineer is assigned to the quality rotation working on performance, monitoring, security vulnerabilities, and maintenance issues. We meet once a week; project teams can have their own calls, but we mostly work asynchronously. We mostly work with Vue.js and Apollo Client moving GitLab into the SPA-like experience.

What You’ll Do

- Collaborate closely with Product and Design counterparts to finalize the requirements and break down projects into smaller iterations, then plan and execute the work with other engineers.
- Work with engineers across Plan Stage, including Senior, Staff and Principal frontend engineers, and Vue core members.
- Iterate and ship value to customers quickly. Create Proof of Concepts for more complex work. Ensure quality by writing extensive tests and rolling out changes behind feature flags.
- Craft code that meets standards for style, maintainability, and best practices for a high-scale web environment.
- Support other frontend engineers and advocate for quality during code reviews.
- Participate in the Quality Rotation.
- Nurture our open-source community by selecting and preparing issues for contributors, helping to organize hackathons, and reviewing contributions.
- Suggest and execute process improvements in monthly retrospectives.

What You’ll Bring

- Professional experience with Vue.js (2.x), Apollo Client, and VueApollo
- Professional experience with building fullstack web apps with GraphQL
- Experience with writing automated tests with Jest
- A solid understanding of semantic HTML, CSS and core JavaScript concepts
- A solid understanding of core web and browser concepts
- Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate about complex technical, architectural, and/or organizational problems and propose thorough iterative solutions
- Experience with performance and optimization problems and ability to diagnose and prevent these problems
- Comfort working in a highly agile, iterative software development process
- Effective communication skills: regularly achieve consensus with peers and provide clear status updates
- Some experience with backend technologies, especially Ruby on Rails is a plus
