We are looking for a passionate, skilled and efficient Centre Cook to join Craigieburn Early Childhood Services, a 75 place Centre located in Craigieburn. We provide education and care for children aged from 0-5 years from 6:30 am to 6:00 pm, for 50 weeks of the year.
Typical roster: Mondays 8:30 am‐1:30 pm, Tuesdays 8:30 am‐1:30 pm, Wednesdays 8:30 am‐3:15 pm, Thursdays 8:30 am‐1:30 pm, Fridays 8:30 am‐1:30 pm.
What you'll be doing:
- Provide a wide range of nutritious meals and snacks for children, reflecting the nutritional and cultural requirements as per the National Quality Standards and the Centre's food policy.
- Plan menus for the centre, taking into account specific dietary requirements, allergies, cultural beliefs and maximising fresh seasonal produce to deliver cost‐effective service.
- Prepare a 6‐week menu that includes all food and beverages and indicates expected costings.
- Communicate effectively with food suppliers to ensure efficient ordering and delivery of high‐quality produce.
- Maintain hygiene standards and kitchen cleanliness, complying with the Food Act 2010 for purchase, preparation, serving, storage and cleaning.
- Document all Food Act 2010 requirements and the Centre's food safety program.
- Document financial management of the program, including food budget, credit card expenditure and reconciliation.
- Support staff in implementing effective food‐handling practices.
- Ensure service menu and nutrition displays are up to date, professional and maintained.
- Attend staff, planning meetings and in‐service training to ensure Food Act 2010 compliance.
- Prepare and participate in internal and external food audits.
- Participate in training to maintain compliance with the Food Act 2010.
- Ensure kitchen equipment is maintained safely and hygienically as required by the Food Act 2010.
The skills and experience you'll bring to the role:
- Demonstrated experience in cooking well‐presented, nutritional meals for large numbers of children, especially those with special dietary requirements.
- Experience in planning and preparing menus that are consistent with the centre's cultural diversity and dietary needs.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as a team member.
- Ability to monitor expenditure within budget allocations, including documentation of credit card spend and reconciliations.
- Current Working with Children's Check.
Required Certifications & Qualifications:
- Current First Aid Certificate Level 2, including Asthma and Anaphylaxis training.
- Certificate III in Commercial Cookery.
