Chigwell House
serves as a cornerstone of the community, offering a safe and supportive environment for individuals facing homelessness and other challenges that impede their journey towards independence. At Chigwell House, we believe in a holistic approach that goes beyond immediate needs, addressing the root causes of vulnerability through a diverse range of services, information, and community-driven events. Our comprehensive programs, including Youth Services, People Staying Connected, Youth Beat, and Disability Employment Services, are designed to empower individuals by equipping them with the tools and resources necessary to build a stable and self-sufficient future.
As a Youth Support Worker, you will play a pivotal role in this mission, providing tailored support to young people who are at a critical juncture in their lives. This role offers a truly rewarding career prospect where you will assess, respond to, and address the complex needs of vulnerable youth. Utilising a client-focused, intensive case management approach within a holistic and therapeutic framework, you will work closely with each young person and their family, via mobile outreach to guide them towards positive outcomes. Your intervention will be vital in preventing these at-risk individuals from entering statutory systems such as Youth Justice or Child Safety Services, thereby making a profound impact on their lives and the broader community.
Your Key Responsibilities 
- Provide intensive outreach case management to stabilise the living situation of young people aged 10 to 18 who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. 
- Support targeted to young people and their families who present with complex support needs and are facing multiple risk challenges. 
- Work to reduce individual and family risk factors and/or reduce impacts of risk factors coupled with increased protective factors. 
- Utilise therapeutic interventions with a strengths-based solutions focused model working toward improving overall health and wellbeing and building their self-identified goals. 
- Build honest and trusting relationships and supporting the young person's capacity while maintaining boundaries of care practices. 
- Provide advocacy, case management, psychoeducation including emotional regulation/anger management and trauma related response interventions. 
- At risk behaviour interventions, harm reduction including alcohol and other drugs, sexual health etc. including external referral and other support from specialists where appropriate for the young person.
Position Requirements
With a significant background in the _child, youth & family,_ social work, health, human_ _services_, or other social science disciplines, you will be confident in your case management and assessment processes. Other requirements include:
- Relevant Tertiary Qualifications and experience in Youth work or related field 
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain community networks 
- Proven ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team and with mínimal supervision 
- Ability to work according to the principles of client-centred practice 
- Capacity to relate to people from different ages and cultural backgrounds 
- Drive engagement from the young person and their formal and informal support network 
- High level of communication skills with young people, peers, government departments and the community 
- Highly developed time management and organisational skills 
- Extensive experience in supporting disadvantaged young people to achieve positive outcomes in terms of the Tasmanian Child and Youth Wellbeing Strategy 
- Must have Full driver licence with no restrictions
