We are seeking an accomplished GIS Specialist to spearhead our efforts in revolutionizing agriculture and addressing climate change. As a member of our dynamic team, you will be instrumental in harnessing geospatial technology to enhance soil health, boost crop yields, and sequester carbon.
About the Role
This is an exceptional opportunity to leverage your expertise in GIS to drive innovation and sustainability in agriculture. Your primary responsibility will be to develop, manage, and optimize geospatial tools, processes, and data to support the successful delivery of carbon projects under various standards.
* Develop and Maintain GIS Tools
o Design and improve GIS-based tools to streamline workflows, with a strong emphasis on automation.
o Deliver and maintain GIS tools that significantly reduce manual geospatial processing through automation and innovative workflows.
* Undertake GIS Mapping
o Create Carbon Project GIS maps by defining project boundaries, exclusion areas, emission accounting areas, carbon estimation areas, strata, sample points, conducting mapping variations, and restratification in line with soil carbon sequestration protocols.
o Generate reports utilizing data visualization techniques.
* Data Management of Geospatial Data
o Store and label Carbon Project GIS data in a consistent and secure manner.
o Create SOPs defining best practice.
* Contribute to GIS Audit and Offset Report Requirements
o Prepare required GIS data for auditing and soil carbon credit issuance.
* Develop AU Mapping Process Improvement & Documentation
o Maintain SOPs, improve GIS workflows, and ensure detailed tracking of project data.
o Manage AU AGOL spaces, sharing protocols, and integration of new features for improved project visibility and collaboration.
* Provide Administrative & Team Support
o Assist with mapping components of project registration, in-field soil sampling, compliance, and coordination.
* Tertiary qualification in GIS, Geospatial Science, Environmental Science, or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
* Demonstrated expertise in automating GIS workflows using tools such as Python (ArcPy, GeoPandas), ModelBuilder, or equivalent scripting frameworks.
* Minimum of 3-4 years experience in GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS) and spatial data management.
* Experience with AGOL administration, integration, and automation.
* Familiarity with carbon project methodologies, preferably under the ERF, is highly desirable.
* Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and commitment to data accuracy.
* Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and manage competing priorities.
* Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, to technical and non-technical audiences.
