**The Role**
CO2 Australia is ideally seeking an experienced Ecologist with a botany focus to assist with the delivery of consulting services focusing on biodiversity offsets, but also contributing to carbon offsets and other natural capital projects throughout Queensland and elsewhere in Australia. This role incorporates the delivery of fieldwork required to meet contractual arrangements, data collation and analysis, as well as compilation of reporting necessary to meet the deliverables associated with those contracts.

**Key Responsibilities**

Fieldwork Program Delivery:

- Conduct various ecological surveys, such as regional ecosystem mapping, BioCondition assessments, threatened species surveys, and weed/pest monitoring.
- Organise and maintain field health and safety plans, equipment, and digital resources for fieldwork programs.
- Travel regionally and interstate for fieldwork, including extended overnight stays.
- Support consulting projects, including ecological surveys, environmental offsets, carbon projects, and environmental co-benefit initiatives.

Project Development and Delivery:

- Collaborate with the Head of Ecology and Innovation to ensure timely project delivery and reporting.
- Conduct research, data analysis, and information collation tasks for projects.
- Manage complex datasets and implement information management tools.
- Contribute to project management of biodiversity and carbon offset projects.
- Participate in report writing, communications, and business development.

Communication:

- Maintain positive relationships with clients, contractors, government agencies, and stakeholders.
- Establish and maintain dialogue with landholders associated with contract engagements.

General Duties:

- Maintain expertise in flora and fauna identification for Queensland.
- Stay updated on Commonwealth and State environmental legislation and policies.
- Contribute to internal committees like Climate Active, Reconciliation Action Plan, Health and Safety, and Marketing.

**About You**
CO2 Australia is looking for an energetic, diligent and passionate Ecologist with strong botany skills to help them deliver a strong pipeline of exciting projects. You will enjoy working in a smaller organisation and rolling up your sleeves to contribute to the team and broader organisation as required. You will also be a natural communicator and collaborator who enjoys sharing ideas and imparting knowledge. Innovative and creative thinking are also strengths of yours, as is looking for continuous improvement opportunities.

Qualifications and Experience:

- Bachelor's degree in an environmental sciences discipline; post-graduate degree (Honours, Masters, or PhD) highly regarded.
- Minimum 5 years' experience in ecological survey and assessment, including Regional Ecosystem verification, full floristic survey, vegetation mapping, plant identification, and BioCondition assessments.
- Extensive experience in diverse Queensland landscapes, including the Brigalow Belt.
- Capability to contribute to and coordinate ecological surveys and teams.
- Proficiency in developing and implementing environmental management and monitoring programs.
- Willingness to travel to remote and rugged areas for field assessments.
- Expertise in preparing high-quality reports, including ecological, management, and environmental assessments.

Skills and Knowledge:

- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and conceptual skills.
- Strong knowledge of Commonwealth and State environmental legislation and policies.
- Familiarity with biodiversity offsets policies (Commonwealth and State) and referrals under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.
- Business development orientation to generate new opportunities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a professional team.
- Must hold a valid driver's license.
- Advanced technical skills in MS Office.

Whilst not essential, the following would also be highly regarded:

- Environmental impact assessment experience.
- Proficiency in fauna identification and ecology.
- Practical experience as an ecologist or botanist in New South Wales, including the implementation of the Biodiversity Assessment Method (BAM) and BAM accreditation.
