About the role
We're looking for an Automation Engineer to support and enhance PLC, SCADA and industrial control systems in a heavy industry environment. You'll work closely with operational, maintenance and technology teams to keep critical systems running safely and reliably, while contributing to improvement and automation projects across the site. Safety, teamwork and practical engineering are at the heart of this role.
Key responsibilities include:
* Support and maintain PLC, SCADA and industrial control systems to ensure safe and reliable plant operation
* Apply a strong safety and risk‐based approach to all engineering activities
* Troubleshoot complex automation, control and data issues across on‐prem and cloud environments
* Participate in and manage industrial automation projects from concept through commissioning and handover
* Work closely with operations and maintenance teams to identify and deliver improvement opportunities
* Maintain accurate technical documentation, architecture diagrams and change records
* Interface with databases, historians, sensors and instrumentation to enable effective data capture and reporting
* Contribute to continuous improvement, system standardisation and technology roadmap initiatives

You are a technically capable and pragmatic automation engineer who enjoys working in a fast‐paced, asset‐intensive environment. You bring strong problem‐solving skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work collaboratively across technical and operational teams.

Essential Skills and experience
* Demonstrated commitment to safety and risk management in industrial environments
* Relevant industrial automation, electrical or engineering tertiary qualifications, or equivalent experience
* Exceptional problem‐solving and critical‐thinking skills, with the ability to resolve non‐standard issues
* Experience with PLCs, SCADA systems and industrial automation technologies
* Experience with SQL databases, including physical and cloud infrastructure, support and troubleshooting
* Experience delivering or supporting industrial projects across the full lifecycle
* Ability to work and communicate effectively within technology and operational teams
* Strong interpersonal skills with a proactive approach to improvement and development opportunities
* Ability to understand technical documentation and maintain accurate, detailed records
* Highly motivated, self‐driven and capable of managing priorities and meeting deadlines
Desirable skills and experience
* Exposure or experience with the following will be highly regarded:
* SCADA systems, particularly Citect including Cicode scripting
* PLC programming in Structured Text, Ladder or C#, or willingness to learn Rockwell, Siemens and ABB platforms
* Familiarity with embedded control systems
* Interfacing with industrial sensors and instrumentationExposure to electronic design and microcontroller programming
* Experience with Power BI or similar data analysis and visualisation tools
