About the role


The National Domain Lead has leadership of the Personal and Professional Development (PPD) Domain, including oversight of the personal and professional development curriculum and assessment content across the MD program with Schools in Sydney, Fremantle and Broome. This role reports to the National Head of Medical Education and Innovation and can be based on any of the campuses of the National School of Medicine. As a teaching scholar, the successful candidate will work with colleagues based across our 3 campuses as well as our clinical schools in the support of the curriculum and assessment for the personal and professional development domain across the 4 years of our MD program.


Key Responsibilities

* Providing national academic leadership including responsibility for the ongoing development, coordination, and implementation of the PPD domain curriculum.
* Advising the National Head of Medical Education and Innovation, and the National Head of School and Deputy Heads of School on matters related to the delivery of the PPD domain curriculum.
* Leading the team nationally including academic staff, supporting PPD domain academics in managing and training the relevant skills of medical educators and tutors.
* Working with the Medical Education Unit (MEU), clinical schools and/or relevant administrative staff to integrate PPD learning objectives across the national MD program.
* Working with the Assessment, Curriculum and medical education academics across the MD program in ensuring appropriate PPD learning objectives are suitably assessed and integrated with other domains and disciplines where appropriate.
* Working with the Assessment team and PPD Domain academics in the development and marking of assessments including standard setting when appropriate.
* Teaching in the PPD domain for MD Program students and carrying out teaching duties


Qualifications, skills & experience

Level C Senior Lecturer

A Level C Academic Employee is expected to make significant contributions to the teaching effort of a department, school, faculty or other organisational unit or an interdisciplinary area. You are also expected to play a major role in scholarship, research and/or professional activities. You will have advanced qualifications and/or recognised significant experience in the relevant discipline area. A position at this level will normally require a doctoral qualification or equivalent accreditation and standing. In determining experience relative to qualifications, regard will be had to teaching experience, experience in research, experience outside tertiary education, creative achievement, professional contributions and/or technical achievement. In addition a position at this level will normally require a record of demonstrable scholarly and professional achievement in the relevant discipline area.

* Possession of a medical degree registrable with AHPRA and one of a Fellowship qualification in Medicine, Health or Medical Education OR
* A PhD, and more than five years teaching at Masters level or higher in medical, health or professional practice or higher education sector.
* Demonstrated experience in curriculum design, delivery and/or assessment in medical education, preferably in the health context and in a tertiary setting, with particular reference to the PPD domain.
* Sustained contribution to the professional and personal development of other staff, evidenced through ongoing leadership in peer review and mentorship.
* Leadership role in major educational initiatives and enhancements of teaching and learning activities at the school/division and University level.
* In determining experience relative to qualifications, regard is had to teaching experience, experience in research, experience outside of tertiary education, creative achievement, professional contributions and/ or contributions to technical achievement.
* Excellent teamwork, communication and negotiation skills with the ability to interact effectively with a range of academic, clinical, administrative and/or technical staff in a complex environment.
* Well-developed organisational and management abilities.
* Proficiency with technology and learning and teaching programs.

Level D Associate Professor

A Level D Academic Employee will normally have the same skill base as a Level C Academic Employee. In addition there is a requirement for academic excellence which may be evidenced by an outstanding contribution to teaching and/or research and/or the profession. A Level D Academic Employee is expected to make a significant contribution to all activities of the organisational unit or interdisciplinary area and play a significant role within their profession or discipline. An Academic Employee at this level may be appointed in recognition of distinction in their disciplinary area.

* Possession of a medical degree registrable with AHPRA and one of a Fellowship qualification in Medicine, Health or Medical Education OR
* A PhD, and more than five years teaching at Masters level or higher in medical, health or professional practice or higher education sector.
* Demonstrated significant experience in curriculum design, delivery and/or assessment in medical education, preferably in the health context and in a tertiary setting, with reference to the PPD domain.
* A sustained significant contribution to the professional and personal development of other staff, evidenced through ongoing leadership in peer review and mentorship.
* Demonstrated leadership role in major educational initiatives and enhancements of teaching and learning activities at the school/division and University level.
* In determining experience relative to qualifications, regard is had to teaching experience, experience in research, experience outside of tertiary education, creative achievement, professional contributions and/or contributions to technical achievement
* Excellent teamwork, communication and negotiation skills with the ability to interact effectively with a range of academic, clinical, administrative and/or technical staff in a complex environment.
* Advanced organisational and management abilities.
* Advanced proficiency with technology and learning and teaching programs.
