The Financial Controller will lead the day-to-day finance operations, ensuring robust financial systems and processes are in place to support the company's growth. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, this is a hands-on leadership role for a technically strong, data-driven, and commercially astute finance professional.
You'll be responsible for all core financial operations, delivering accurate and timely management reporting, ensuring statutory compliance and providing actionable financial insights to guide strategic decision-making. As the business continues to scale, you'll lead the evolution of finance systems, processes and controls, driving automation and efficiency across the function while leading and growing a passionate team of onshore and offshore finance professionals, building capability and fostering a high-performance culture to support the next phase of growth.
Organisational Structure
This permanent full-time position will be based from our HQ in Byron Bay with ability to commute to our Gold Coast, Varsity Lakes site on an as needed basis. Alternatively we can offer a hybrid split of 4x days in the Byron Bay office and 1x day from the Varsity Lakes office. The position offers flexible working hours between 8:00am to 4:00pm or 9:00am to 5:00pm - you choose! As an 100% on-site business, an in-office presence is required in this role to foster connection, collaboration, and results.
A Day in the Life
* Deliver accurate month-end close, work papers, and reconciliations in line with group policies to provide stakeholders with meaningful data for decision-making.
* Develop and implement robust policies, procedures, and internal control frameworks to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence.
* Manage all tax compliance obligations and payroll reporting requirements, ensuring total accuracy and adherence to statutory deadlines.
* Resolve complex technical accounting issues and lead auditing activities to ensure timely finalisation and professional resolution of financial queries.
* Oversee and maintain financial systems to guarantee the integrity, accurate recording, and seamless provision of all company financial information.
* Execute special projects and ad-hoc assignments directed by the CFO or Senior Leadership Team, ensuring alignment with broader business objectives.
To be a Front Running Candidate
* Experience working in financial and management reporting functions within a similar, complex, data-led organisation. Experience within a chartered firm is preferred.
* Well-developed communication skills with an ability to manage and lead all levels of the business and influence relevant stakeholders.
* Prior experience leading, motivating, mentoring and providing direction to a team of Finance Professionals.
* Prior experience preparing insightful reporting and analysis to inform management decision making.
* Highly developed finance systems skills, with a working knowledge of system improvement and track record of leading financial projects.
* The successful candidate will be required to undergo a Qantas background check.
