The Company
There is a version of this business that exists on paper. Diversified industrial group, national footprint, ASX-backed investor, international exposure. And then there is the version that actually matters. The one where three businesses have been acquired in the past twelve months. Where the CFO came from taking a retail company from two stores to an IPO. Where the General Manager running this division spent six years as VP Operations at one of Australia's largest businesses of its kind and now has his sights set on something that could be bigger.
This is not a business coasting on a strong balance sheet. It is a business in motion, making deliberate moves, and building the finance function with a new Management Accountant to match.
The Role
The division is growing faster than one person can manage. That is why this Management Accountant role exists.
Reporting to the Group Financial Controller and working day to day alongside the General Manager, you will be the primary finance presence across a portfolio of operating businesses. Each with its own customer base, its own P&L, and its own story to tell in the numbers. Your job is to know that story before anyone has to ask.
This is not a role where you close the month and wait to be thanked. The brief is more interesting than that. The division has moved quickly, there is real work to do on systems and processes, and the General Manager needs a finance partner who speaks his language. Someone who walks into his office before the month is out, not after. Someone who can tell him which businesses are performing, which ones are bleeding margin and what to do about it. In plain English, without a slide deck.
The technical foundation matters. But the thing that will make or break this role is whether you can be genuinely useful to an operational leader who does not have time for finance that hides behind reports.
Duties will include, but not be limited to:
* Owning the month-end close across the portfolio entities, including journals, accruals, balance sheet reconciliations and trial balance review, with enough horsepower to clear the backlog and keep it clean without hand-holding
* Maintaining tight intercompany reconciliations between the portfolio entities and the broader group, keeping the balance sheet in a shape that reflects the business accurately
* Preparing management reports that the GM and his team actually open, including P&L by business, sales and margin analysis, and budget versus actual with commentary that tells them something they did not already know
* Monitoring working capital across the portfolio, watching debtors, payables and job-related costs, and flagging problems before they land on the CFO's desk
* Contributing to budgeting and rolling forecasts, translating what is happening operationally into numbers that drive decisions rather than document them
* Working with the Group Financial Controller to improve how the business uses its ERP, reducing manual rework and building reporting that is faster, sharper and more reliable
* Supporting year-end audit requirements, group reporting and statutory compliance across the entities
* Playing a hands-on role in acquisition integration as further businesses are added to the portfolio, helping new operations into the group's reporting and control framework without disruption
About You
You are a commercially minded accountant who has never really been satisfied by technically correct. You want the work to matter. You want the GM to call you before he calls anyone else when the numbers look wrong, because he trusts that you know what they mean and what to do about them.
You are comfortable in environments that are not perfectly set up. You know how to walk into a multi-entity portfolio, assess what needs attention first, and impose structure without waiting to be told. You are just as comfortable on the tools, journals, reconciliations, month-end rhythm, as you are sitting across from an operational leader who needs the bottom line in two sentences. CA or CPA qualified, you have the credentials. Now you want a role where the work is visible, the stakes are real and the people around you will actually notice the difference you make.
Skills & Experience
* CA or CPA qualified, or working toward completion, with solid management accounting experience in a multi-entity or operationally complex business
* Strong month-end close capability across journals, accruals, reconciliations and intercompany, with the discipline to do it well under pressure every single time
* Proven ability to produce management reports that go beyond templates and give operational leaders something they can act on
* Comfortable with MYOB, MYOB Acumatica or a comparable ERP, and willing to get into the system when it is not working as it should
* A track record of building genuine working relationships with non-finance stakeholders and translating financial performance into plain language
* A process improvement instinct and the drive to tighten workflows, reduce rework and make information move faster
* Experience in product-led, construction or project-based environments will be well regarded, though not essential
What's On Offer
Most finance roles at this level offer ownership in theory. This one offers it in practice. You will be the person the GM calls, the one the CFO sees doing the work, and the one who shapes how finance operates across a portfolio that will be larger in two years than it is today.
The business is acquiring. The scope is expanding. And the person who builds credibility in this seat early will be well positioned when the next chapter opens.
A competitive salary package aligned to your experience, with a genuine hybrid working arrangement.
