We are seeking a Tax Manager for a 12-month fixed-term contract to take ownership of all tax-related matters, working closely with the National Manager - Tax, General Manager – Finance & Tax, and Executive Director – Finance.
The Position
This role is responsible for managing the Australian Tax function and all related compliance, operating within the global tax framework established by our UK-based parent company.
Key internal and external stakeholders include senior management, regional & Group tax teams,external tax advisers, the ATO and State Revenue departments.

Main responsibilities:
Tax Compliance
Corporate income tax – review and sign off all computations and returns, payments to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), manage ATO enquiries and audits
GST and other taxes – as above for corporate income tax
Payroll taxes and FBT – review and sign off all payroll tax and FBT computations.
Take the lead on setting local tax policy and governance framework pursuant to the Group's tax strategy and the published guidance from the ATO with support from the Tax National Manager, General Manager – Finance & Tax, and Executive Director – Finance
Execution and delivery of internal tax control testing
Management of the Australian tax risk register
Assist with monitoring tax key financial controls, and recommend improvements where appropriate
Recommend and implement tax process improvements and efficiencies in collaboration with the Finance Team.
Tax Planning and Business Support
Identify and lead on all planning opportunities (direct and indirect)
Business support as appropriate, e.g. tax implications of contract tendering & renewals, M&A, capex, business reorganisations, employee compensation etc.
Tax Reporting
Review and sign off on reporting to the Group of budget, forecast, and year-end corporate tax submissions (and monthly cash tax reporting tothe Group)
Review and sign off on tax disclosures in local statutory accounts
Calculating and reporting local operating taxes to ensure appropriate P&L and cash reporting.
Leadership
In conjunction with the Finance team, embrace the Finance community, and proactively encourage the training and development of team members, particularly in relation to tax compliance
Collaborate with the Finance team to ensure the consistent leadership of the Finance community across Compass AU.
People & Culture
Develop good relationships with fellow team members to foster a culture of financial and operational excellence with a can-do, proactive approach
Develop and maintain productive working relationships with key stakeholders – build relationships whilst analysing and challenging
Support the business in ensuring that the needs of the stakeholders are met
Operate in accordance with Compass values and actively support and participate in Compass culture
The Person
Experience, Qualifications, and Competency Requirements:
CA, CPA, or CTA qualified
10+ years of tax experience, professional and/or corporate
Proactive, hardworking attitude and a high level of accountability
Strong teamwork and an emphasis on striving for continuous improvement
Experience with Oracle (desirable)
Exposure to contract-based, services, or retail businesses (desirable)
