The role
Reporting to the CEO, you will lead Forensic Science Queensland's (FSQ's) strategic and operational objectives. The Chief Operating Officer must ensure high quality and contemporary forensic services and expert advice to the unit's key stakeholders such as Queensland Police Service and The Coroner's Court of Queensland. This position's key focus is the delivery of strategic and operational corporate and policy support to meet priorities and objectives.

The successful personThe successful person will have experience in an executive leadership capacity. You will have demonstrated experience leading and successfully implementing change and improving performance and culture at an organisation level. The Chief Operating Officer will be able to develop, lead and manage a large effective team of staff and model a values-based leadership style. You will have experience in reviewing systems, services, and risk management frameworks to develop and implement recommended strategies. Exemplary communication and interpersonal skills are required, with a demonstrated ability to work in partnership and build influential and productive relationships across organisational and sector boundaries.
About usForensic Science Queensland (FSQ) laboratories are located at Coopers Plains in Brisbane. FSQ operates specialised Forensic Biology, Forensic Chemistry and Forensic Operations functions that provides forensic services and expert advice to the Queensland Police Service (QPS) and the Coroner's Court of Queensland.
Forensic Biology provides analytical and advisory services principally to the Queensland Police Service in the areas of evidence examination, DNA analysis and result interpretation culminating in expert advice and evidence.
Forensic Chemistry provides testing evidence examination and reporting, oil spill comparisons and illicit drug analysis. It also performs commercial testing for hemp growers, councils, commercial cleaning companies, landlords and real estate agents.
